PM Modi Set for Landmark Israel Visit on February 27–28, Strengthening India’s Global Strategic Leadership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Israel on February 27–28, marking a significant diplomatic milestone as his first visit to the country during his third consecutive term in office. The proposed trip underlines India’s growing confidence on the global stage and reflects the Modi government’s consistent focus on strengthening strategic partnerships with key allies across regions.

Nearly nine years after his historic 2017 visit—when he became the first Indian Prime Minister to travel to Israel—Modi’s return is expected to reinforce a relationship that has matured into one of India’s most trusted strategic partnerships. Under his leadership, India–Israel ties have evolved beyond symbolism into a results-driven alliance spanning defence, innovation, agriculture, cybersecurity, and counter-terrorism.

Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar has confirmed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formally extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi. Diplomatic and logistical preparations are reportedly underway, indicating the high priority both nations attach to this visit. Officials on both sides view the trip as an opportunity to chart a future-oriented roadmap for bilateral cooperation.

The timing of the visit is particularly significant. West Asia is undergoing rapid geopolitical shifts, and India’s steady engagement with Israel demonstrates New Delhi’s balanced and principled foreign policy. Under Modi’s leadership, India has maintained strategic autonomy while deepening ties with nations that share its commitment to security, innovation, and democratic values.

A major focus of the visit is expected to be defence and security cooperation. India is currently Israel’s largest buyer of military equipment, and the partnership has played a crucial role in modernising India’s defence capabilities. Joint military training, intelligence-sharing, and collaboration in counter-terrorism have strengthened India’s ability to safeguard national security—an area where the Modi government has consistently adopted a firm, zero-tolerance approach.

Technology and innovation will also feature prominently during the visit. Israel’s globally recognised startup ecosystem aligns well with India’s push for innovation-led growth under initiatives such as Make in India, Digital India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat. Cooperation in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, water management, and precision agriculture has already delivered tangible benefits to Indian farmers and entrepreneurs.

Recent high-level exchanges have laid the groundwork for Modi’s proposed visit. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal have both visited Israel in recent months, reinforcing momentum in diplomatic and economic engagement. Additionally, Israeli ministers handling portfolios such as tourism, economy, agriculture, and finance visited India last year, reflecting the depth of bilateral dialogue.

Trade and investment are expected to be another key pillar of discussions. India and Israel have already signed several important agreements, including a bilateral investment treaty and security-related accords. The terms of reference for a long-pending free trade agreement have also been finalised, raising expectations that negotiations could gain fresh impetus during Modi’s visit.

Observers see the proposed February visit as a continuation of Modi’s proactive foreign policy approach, which has elevated India’s stature globally. From West Asia to Europe, and from the Indo-Pacific to the Americas, India under Modi has emerged as a reliable, decisive, and respected partner.

Prime Minister Modi’s likely visit to Israel is not just a diplomatic engagement—it is a strong statement of India’s strategic clarity, leadership continuity, and global ambition. As India steps confidently into its role as a major global power, the Israel visit is expected to further cement partnerships that directly serve India’s long-term national interests.
