PM Addresses Rally in Assam’s Silchar
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the Union government is working to reduce the impact of global conflicts on Indian citizens, while accusing the Indian National Congress of spreading panic among the public.
Speaking at a public rally in Silchar, Modi said that several regions around the world are facing wars and conflicts, and the government’s priority is to protect the interests of people in India.
“At a time when the world is witnessing wars, our focus is to minimise their impact on our citizens. The Congress should have acted responsibly, but instead it is trying to create panic among people,” the Prime Minister said.
Modi Targets Congress Over Development in Northeast
The Prime Minister criticised the Congress for what he described as decades of neglect of the Northeast region, particularly the Barak Valley in Assam.
According to Modi, Barak Valley was once a thriving trade and industrial centre, but decisions taken after independence weakened the region’s economic potential.
“Barak Valley was once known as an important industrial hub. However, policies during Congress rule weakened its growth and development for decades,” he said.
BJP Working to Transform the Region
Highlighting the initiatives taken by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, Modi said the current administration is committed to bringing development to regions that were historically overlooked.
He added that the government is focusing on infrastructure, connectivity, and economic opportunities to ensure balanced growth across the country.
“Where Congress stops thinking, we start working. Our priority is to uplift those regions and communities that were left behind in the development process,” Modi said.
Focus on Youth and Opportunities in Assam
The Prime Minister also accused the Congress of misleading the youth of Assam in the past and pushing them towards paths of unrest.
He said the BJP government has instead created new opportunities for young people, encouraging entrepreneurship, employment and education.
Projects Worth ₹23,550 Crore Launched
During the event in Silchar, Modi also launched and inaugurated development projects worth ₹23,550 crore, aimed at improving infrastructure and boosting economic growth in the region.
The programme marked the final leg of his two-day visit to Assam, which comes ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
