Mohan Bhagwat to Inaugurate RSS Founder Hedgewar Memorial in Telangana’s Kandakurthi

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat is set to inaugurate the Sri Keshava Spoorti Mandir in Telangana’s Kandakurthi village on April 11, marking a significant moment for the organisation as it commemorates the legacy of its founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar. The memorial, built at the ancestral village of Hedgewar in Nizamabad district, is being positioned as a cultural and historical centre dedicated to preserving the ideological roots and history of the RSS.

The inauguration comes at a time when the RSS is approaching its centenary year, and the organisation has been actively focusing on documenting its history and expanding its outreach across different regions of the country. The Kandakurthi memorial is expected to become a symbolic site for swayamsevaks and visitors interested in understanding the origins and evolution of the RSS and its role in social and cultural activities over the past century.

Spread across nearly three acres and built at an estimated cost of ₹10 crore under the supervision of Seva Bharathi, the Sri Keshava Spoorti Mandir has been designed as a two-storey complex featuring a statue of Dr Hedgewar, an idol of Bharat Mata, and exhibitions showcasing photographs, documents, and personal items associated with the RSS founder. Organisers say the memorial aims to create a space where visitors can learn about Hedgewar’s life, his vision for national organisation, and the values that shaped the RSS movement.

The programme on April 11 is expected to draw several thousand invitees, including RSS functionaries, social workers, and local residents. Bhagwat is scheduled to arrive in the evening, visit nearby historic temples, formally inaugurate the memorial, unveil statues, and tour the exhibition galleries before addressing a public gathering. The event will also feature cultural and ceremonial elements, including plans to promote Ganga Harathi on the banks of the Godavari, reflecting a blend of spiritual and cultural traditions linked to the region.

RSS leaders believe that establishing such memorials helps connect younger generations with the organisation’s historical journey and reinforces its emphasis on cultural identity and community service. Kandakurthi, considered the ancestral village of Hedgewar, holds particular significance in the RSS narrative, and the new memorial is expected to become a regular destination for training programmes, cultural events, and organisational activities in the southern region.

With preparations complete and security arrangements in place, the inauguration is likely to draw attention not only from RSS supporters but also from political and social observers, as the organisation continues to expand its institutional and cultural presence across India in the run-up to its centenary celebrations.
