RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat Says Marriage Strengthens Social Responsibility, Calls for Family Dialogue and Balanced Modernity

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has underlined the importance of marriage as a foundation for responsibility and social stability, while expressing concerns over the growing acceptance of live-in relationships. Addressing a programme on “Contemporary Motherhood” organised by the Vishwa Mangalya Sabha in Hyderabad, Bhagwat said strong family values remain central to building a healthy society.

During his address, he said marriage is not merely a social institution but a discipline that nurtures commitment, responsibility and moral values. In contrast, he remarked that the increasing trend of live-in relationships in many parts of the world reflects a preference for personal convenience over long-term responsibility, urging people to observe its broader social consequences.

Bhagwat noted that while Indian society should embrace progress and adapt to changing times, modernity should not come at the cost of cultural values. He stressed that change is a natural part of society, but blindly copying Western lifestyles without understanding their long-term impact could weaken traditional family structures.

Speaking about younger generations, the RSS chief said today’s youth are highly emotional, quick to adopt new trends and often influenced by what appears authentic to them. He suggested that parents and elders should spend more time engaging with children, encouraging open conversations instead of simply giving instructions.

Highlighting the role of families, Bhagwat urged parents to maintain discipline in the use of mobile phones and ensure regular interaction within households. He said meaningful discussions help address children’s curiosity, strengthen relationships and create an environment where values are passed on through dialogue rather than authority.

On social inclusion, Bhagwat said members of the LGBTQ community are also part of society and should not be treated with disrespect or discrimination. He emphasised that every individual deserves dignity while broader discussions on social values should continue in a respectful and constructive manner.

His remarks focused on balancing tradition with changing social realities, stressing that preserving strong family bonds and encouraging responsible behaviour remain essential for the country’s long-term social development.
