By The Haryana government has stepped up preparations for the upcoming Monsoon Session of the State Assembly, signalling that the formal process to convene the House is entering its final phase. As part of these preparations, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini met Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh at Raj Bhavan on Monday.
While the Governor’s office did not issue an official statement detailing the agenda of the meeting, government sources indicated that discussions focused on convening the Assembly’s Monsoon Session. The meeting comes amid expectations that the government will soon seek the Governor’s approval for the session.
According to officials familiar with the developments, the state government is likely to submit its proposal to convene the Assembly later this week. Once the Governor grants approval, the dates of the Monsoon Session will be announced through an official notification.
The groundwork for this move had already been laid during the Haryana Cabinet meeting held on July 28 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Saini. Although the Cabinet cleared 22 important proposals during that meeting, it did not finalise the Assembly session schedule. Instead, the Cabinet authorised the Chief Minister to decide the dates and programme of the session after completing the required formalities.
Sources suggest that the session is unlikely to begin before August 10. One of the practical reasons is that several facilities within the Assembly complex, including the press lounge, parking areas and entry points, are shared with the Punjab Assembly, whose Monsoon Session is expected to continue until August 10.
Officials also point out that Independence Day preparations will keep ministers, legislators and district administrations occupied in the days leading up to August 15. Holding the Assembly session immediately before or after the national celebrations may not be administratively convenient.
Government sources indicate that August 21 is emerging as the likely date for the commencement of the Monsoon Session, although no final decision has been taken. The schedule will only be confirmed after the Governor’s approval and the issuance of an official notification.
The upcoming session is expected to feature discussions on several important legislative, financial and administrative matters. The government is likely to introduce key bills and policy proposals, while the Opposition is preparing to raise issues related to law and order, farmers’ concerns, unemployment, development projects and other matters of public interest.
