By Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s government has announced free travel on Haryana Roadways buses for women and children on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The facility will allow women and their children up to the age of 15 to travel without paying a fare during the festival period.
The free travel arrangement will begin at 12 noon on August 27, 2026, and continue until midnight on August 28. The concession will apply to ordinary Haryana Roadways buses operating within the state, including services travelling to Delhi and Chandigarh.
Free travel facility for women and children
According to the government directions, women of all age groups and children up to 15 years will be eligible for the free journey facility. The move is aimed at making it easier for families to travel during Raksha Bandhan, when passenger numbers generally increase as people head home to celebrate the festival with their families.
The benefit will be available only on ordinary Roadways buses covered under the government’s order during the specified period.
More buses to be deployed
Transport officials have been directed to ensure that an adequate number of buses are available on routes expected to see higher passenger demand.
Officials have also been asked to monitor operations closely so that passengers, particularly women and children, do not face unnecessary delays or overcrowding during the festival rush.
Extra staff at bus stands
The government has instructed authorities to deploy sufficient uniformed staff at bus stands to assist passengers during the period.
Staff members have been specifically asked to maintain courteous behaviour with passengers and help them with travel-related requirements.
Police deployment for passenger safety
District administrations have also been asked to coordinate with the Transport Department to ensure adequate police deployment at bus stands and other important points wherever required.
The additional security arrangements are intended to help maintain order, ensure the safe movement of passengers and keep Roadways operations running smoothly throughout the Raksha Bandhan period.
With the free-travel window covering 12 noon on August 27 to midnight on August 28, the Haryana government expects the arrangement to provide relief to women and families travelling for the festival.
