Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called on BJP workers to step up direct engagement with young people and beneficiaries of government schemes, saying the party’s outreach should focus on presenting facts and real-life examples of development. He also targeted the Samajwadi Party, accusing it of defending mafia figures while ignoring issues affecting the poor and vulnerable.
Speaking at a state-level workshop of the Seva Se Sankalp Abhiyan at Lucknow’s Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Adityanath asked party workers to use the month-long campaign to explain how Uttar Pradesh has changed since 2017 and how the country has progressed since 2014. The campaign comes as the BJP begins building its organisational groundwork for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Focus on youth and changing perceptions
Adityanath said discussions around Gen Z and Gen Alpha are increasingly shaped by social media, making it important for party workers to interact directly with young people rather than relying only on online communication.
He asked workers to explain the changes in education, employment, infrastructure and public welfare by comparing the situation before 2017 with the developments of the past nine years.
Citing basic education, the chief minister said the number of children studying in Basic Education Parishad schools has increased from around 1.20 crore before 2017 to nearly 1.60 crore today. He also pointed to Operation Kayakalp, under which, according to him, 1.36 lakh schools have undergone major improvements.
He said students have also received uniforms, school bags, books, shoes, socks and sweaters as part of government support.
Month-long campaign ahead of 2027 polls
The Seva Se Sankalp Abhiyan will run from September 17 to October 17 across Uttar Pradesh. BJP workers are expected to conduct door-to-door outreach, organise social programmes and interact with beneficiaries of central and state government schemes.
The campaign is being organised around Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public life, spanning his tenure as Gujarat chief minister and his years as Prime Minister.
Adityanath said every booth and Shakti Kendra has examples of people who have benefited from government schemes, whether through employment, housing, education, healthcare or other forms of assistance. He urged workers to bring these stories directly to the public.
Yogi attacks SP over mafia and recruitment
Taking aim at the Samajwadi Party, Adityanath accused its leaders of showing sympathy towards mafia figures while failing to speak about the suffering of poor children and other vulnerable sections.
He also criticised the previous SP government over recruitment practices, alleging that government jobs were affected by corruption and caste-based considerations.
In contrast, he claimed that the BJP government had made recruitment more transparent and said around 9.30 lakh young people have received government jobs so far. He added that the process of issuing appointment letters to another one lakh youths is being taken forward over the next six months.
Startups and industries cited as signs of change
The chief minister also highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s expanding startup ecosystem. According to him, the state had around 120 startups before 2017, while the number has now risen to approximately 24,000.
He further claimed that closed industrial units have resumed operations and new industries are being established, creating additional employment opportunities for young people.
Encephalitis and healthcare
Referring to the history of Japanese encephalitis in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Adityanath said the disease had once caused widespread fear in districts including Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria, Maharajganj, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar and Siddharthnagar.
He criticised previous governments for what he described as a lack of political attention to the problem and said his government had taken steps that significantly changed the situation.
Infrastructure as a campaign message
Adityanath also asked BJP workers to explain the state’s infrastructure growth through concrete examples.
He said the road journey between Gorakhpur and Lucknow, which earlier took around seven to eight hours, can now be completed in roughly three and a half hours. He cited the Ganga Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, Delhi-Meerut Expressway and Rapid Rail projects as examples of improved connectivity.
The chief minister also highlighted the expansion of aviation infrastructure, saying Uttar Pradesh now has 17 domestic and five international airports, compared with only two operational airports before 2017.
Beneficiary stories to form the core of outreach
Adityanath stressed that BJP workers should not limit the campaign to speeches or statistics but should meet beneficiaries and share their experiences.
He cited the example of a beneficiary in Ayodhya who, according to him, used ₹2.5 lakh received under the PM Awas Yojana to build a house and invested ₹1 lakh of his savings in an e-rickshaw. The vehicle subsequently became a second source of income, with daily earnings of around ₹1,000.
He also mentioned a woman from Sonbhadra who received a house under the CM Awas Yojana and planned to use her savings to purchase a buffalo and start a dairy business.
“These are the real success stories,” Adityanath said, urging workers to take such examples to households across the state.
He also asked that issues concerning Shiksha Mitras, instructors and teachers, along with increased honorariums for Anganwadi and ASHA workers and other welfare measures, be included in the campaign’s public dialogue.
Smriti Irani asks workers to reach every household
BJP national general secretary Smriti Irani also addressed the workshop and urged party workers to take the message of Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service to every booth and household.
She said the campaign should promote the idea of a developed and self-reliant India through greater public participation. Irani specifically asked booth committees and Panna Pramukhs to ensure that the outreach reaches every family.
She also outlined the 13 categories of programmes planned under the campaign.
Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, BJP state president and Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, state general secretary (organisation) Dharmpal Singh and other senior party functionaries attended the workshop.
