Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has outlined a broader development vision for the state that puts farmers, solar energy and natural farming at the centre of rural growth. He said the government’s objective is not simply to improve economic indicators, but to build a Haryana where girls have access to education, young people find opportunities, farmers become more prosperous and poorer sections can live with dignity.
Speaking at an event in Delhi on October 3, Saini said Haryana was working in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of enabling farmers to contribute to the country’s energy needs along with producing food. He said the state would expand solar power initiatives and encourage farmers to adopt natural farming as part of this approach.
More homes to be connected to solar power
Saini highlighted the progress under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, saying rooftop solar panels have already been installed at more than 1.5 lakh homes in Haryana. According to the chief minister, these households are now benefiting from zero electricity bills.
He said the state intends to accelerate the expansion of rooftop solar and bring more families into the programme. The focus, he said, is to make clean energy a practical part of everyday household life while also reducing the financial burden of electricity consumption.
The chief minister linked this approach to the government’s larger plan for agriculture. Rather than limiting farmers’ role to food production, he said the objective is to create opportunities for them to generate energy as well.
Push for natural farming across villages
Saini also announced a target of bringing at least 1,000 farmers from every Assembly constituency into natural farming.
He said ministers and MLAs had been asked to encourage villages and families to dedicate at least one acre of land to natural farming. The idea is to expand the practice at the grassroots level instead of limiting it to individual farmers or isolated areas.
The chief minister presented solar energy and natural farming as part of a wider effort to create new opportunities for rural communities. His remarks also reflected the government’s stated aim of combining agricultural production with alternative sources of income and energy generation.
Saini links BJP workers to public service
The chief minister also spoke about the role of BJP workers in community service, saying politics should not be limited to election campaigns.
According to Saini, Prime Minister Modi has repeatedly stressed that political work should be connected with public service and that party workers should remain engaged with people during both ordinary and difficult times.
He cited the COVID-19 pandemic as an example, saying BJP workers, legislators and ministers continued to work among people during the health crisis. Saini said their involvement during that period reflected what he described as the party’s broader approach to social service.
“Our workers are seen standing with the people during times of service, in moments of crisis, and in every noble social endeavour,” Saini said.
He also said the prime minister has a strong connection with the people of Haryana and that the state’s development agenda is being pursued under his broader vision.
For Haryana, Saini’s remarks put two parallel priorities—expanding clean energy and changing farming practices—at the heart of the state’s rural development strategy. The government’s emphasis now is on taking these initiatives deeper into villages and ensuring that farmers can play a larger role in both agriculture and energy production.
