Nitin Nabin Accuses Rahul Gandhi and Opposition of Using Tricolour for Political Unrest
BJP national president Nitin Nabin has accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders of using the national flag to fuel political unrest in Delhi, arguing that the Tricolour should not be used as a tool for confrontation. Speaking to reporters in Patna on Saturday, Nabin said political power must be won through public support and democratic elections, not through street protests that he alleged were aimed at creating disorder.

Nabin’s remarks came amid a political dispute over protests in the national capital, with the BJP questioning the Opposition’s approach to demonstrations involving the national flag. He also targeted opposition parties over their criticism of the Election Commission, alleging that complaints about electoral irregularities often surface after election defeats rather than being raised consistently across political contests.

Nabin Questions Opposition’s Use of the National Flag

Speaking to the media, Nabin alleged that Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders were invoking the Tricolour to mobilise political support and create unrest. He contrasted their participation in the Delhi protests with what he described as their absence from initiatives such as the Centre’s Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.

The BJP chief also accused opposition leaders of avoiding substantive discussions on economic development, governance and public welfare in favour of street demonstrations and political confrontation.

He argued that the national flag represents the country and its democratic values, not anarchy. According to Nabin, attempts to secure political power through unrest undermine the principles of constitutional democracy, in which governments are chosen through the people’s mandate.

BJP Chief Alleges Attempts to Undermine India’s Progress

Nabin went further, alleging that certain global powers were attempting to obstruct India’s development by using Rahul Gandhi and members of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). He claimed these forces were uncomfortable with India’s progress towards becoming a developed nation, though he did not provide specific evidence for the allegation.

Warning opposition parties against what he described as efforts to derail the country’s growth, Nabin said citizens were watching their actions. He added that voters would respond at the appropriate time.

His comments reflect the BJP’s broader political argument that opposition protests and criticism of the government should be judged against their impact on democratic institutions and national development. The Opposition’s position on electoral transparency and the right to protest remains a separate point of political contention.

Nabin Targets Opposition’s Electoral Allegations

The BJP president also criticised opposition parties for raising concerns about electoral malpractice. He alleged that such accusations were frequently made after defeats and questioned why similar complaints were not consistently raised when opposition parties won elections in states such as Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Referring to Bihar, Nabin said opposition leaders had failed to submit genuine complaints after electoral rolls were published on September 30, 2025, following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

He accused opposition parties of blaming the Election Commission out of frustration over electoral losses. These remarks formed part of his wider defence of the electoral process and criticism of the Opposition’s approach to election-related disputes.

Earlier on Saturday, Nabin visited several Durga Puja pandals to perform religious rituals and attended functions organised by party leaders, including legislators.

The remarks in Patna brought together two issues at the centre of the political debate: the use of the national flag during protests in Delhi and opposition allegations concerning electoral transparency. Both continue to draw competing claims from the BJP and its political rivals.
