Organised around the theme ‘Ek Bharat – Shreshtha Bharat’, the programme brought together people from different sections of society, including college students, government employees, public representatives, officials and yoga volunteers. The event also included a message encouraging young people to stay away from drugs and adopt healthier lifestyles.
CM Pays Tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
Patel arrived at Navlakhi Ground at around 7 am and was welcomed with a Guard of Honour accompanied by the police band. Before the run began, he paid floral tribute to the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, remembering the leader widely known as the Iron Man of India and a recipient of the Bharat Ratna.
The ceremony continued with the National Anthem, followed by a national unity pledge administered by Vadodara’s Police Commissioner. Chief Minister Patel then flagged off the run and participated in the event alongside the attendees.
Youth Promote Drug-Free India
A notable feature of the programme was the participation of young people carrying placards with the message, “Say No To Drugs, Say Yes To Life.” The campaign highlighted the importance of preventing drug abuse and promoting health and well-being among the younger generation.
The participation of students and volunteers added a strong community dimension to the event, with the message of unity extending beyond the commemoration of a national leader.
National Unity Day Marks Sardar Patel’s Legacy
Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, or National Unity Day, is observed every year on October 31 to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. His contribution to India’s national integration, particularly the political unification of princely states after Independence, remains central to the occasion.
The day serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting India’s sovereignty, peace and territorial integrity. Events such as the Run for Unity encourage citizens to reaffirm their commitment to national unity while celebrating the country’s diversity.
