The inauguration of the 23-km Pink Line, built at a cost of more than ₹8,300 crore, is expected to provide a major boost to daily commuters travelling between the Hinjewadi IT hub and Shivajinagar. The corridor will connect Maan with the District Court Metro Station, making it easier for IT professionals and other passengers to reach key employment centres while strengthening links with Pune’s existing metro network.
Pune Metro Pink Line to Connect Major IT and Business Hubs
Metro Line 3 is designed to improve public transport access to one of Pune’s most important employment zones. The direct connection between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar is expected to make daily travel more convenient for thousands of commuters.
Its integration with the existing metro network will also improve connectivity between different parts of the city. The expanded access to commercial and residential areas is expected to encourage more people to use public transport, potentially reducing dependence on private vehicles, traffic congestion and vehicle emissions.
Pink Line to Be Operated Entirely by Women
The project also places emphasis on inclusive public transport and women’s participation in the workforce. In a distinctive initiative, the entire Pink Line will be operated by women train operators.
Sustainability is another key feature of the corridor. Around 30 per cent of the line’s total electricity requirement is planned to be met through solar energy, reducing its dependence on conventional power sources.
PM Modi to Launch Pune Metro Phase 2 Expansion
Alongside the inauguration, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for Pune Metro Phase 2, which has an estimated cost of around ₹13,500 crore.
The second phase will include Metro Lines 2A, 2B, 4 and 4A. These corridors are planned to improve connections between important residential neighbourhoods, business districts and IT centres across Pune.
Lines 2A and 2B together will cover approximately 12.75 km. The wider expansion is expected to strengthen the city’s public transport infrastructure and create a more integrated metro network, giving commuters better options for travelling across Pune.
With the inauguration of Line 3 and the launch of Phase 2 works, Pune’s metro network is set for a significant expansion, with the focus on improving urban mobility and providing a more efficient alternative to road travel.
