In a distressing turn of events during the auspicious month of Sawan, chaos broke out on the third Monday as members of various service groups—dedicated to assisting Kanwar Yatris—were attacked while performing their duties. The incident escalated further when chairs were reportedly thrown at each other amidst the unruly crowd, creating panic and disorder.

The clash took place on the Kanwaria Path, a route specially designated for the annual Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage. On this particular day, an overwhelming number of devotees had gathered to offer their prayers and collect holy water for Shiva Abhishekam, leading to an unprecedented rush.

According to eyewitnesses, the situation worsened when a minor disagreement among youth volunteers turned violent. Despite their initial intent to serve and manage the crowd, a verbal spat quickly spiraled into a physical confrontation. In the ensuing mayhem, chairs and other objects were hurled, putting several devotees at risk.

Local authorities and police personnel stationed in the area intervened quickly to control the situation and prevent further escalation. However, by the time order was restored, multiple injuries had already been reported. Emergency medical assistance was provided on-site, and a few severely injured individuals were shifted to nearby hospitals.

With lakhs of devotees walking miles as a part of their spiritual journey during Sawan, any lapse in coordination between service teams and law enforcement can result in dangerous outcomes.

Residents and religious leaders have called for stricter guidelines, better training of volunteer groups, and increased police presence during the remaining Mondays of Sawan, which traditionally witness even higher footfalls.
