Prayagraj Drowns in Rising Waters: Ganga's Fury Brings Flood-Like Conditions
📍Prayagraj | July 16, 2025
The holy city of Prayagraj is facing severe waterlogging and flood-like conditions as the Ganga River's water level continues to rise, breaching the danger mark in many areas. With consistent rainfall in the upper reaches of Uttarakhand and surrounding regions, the river has swollen rapidly, leaving low-lying areas submerged and disrupting normal life.
Affected Areas:
Localities such as Daraganj, Salori, Bairahana, and parts of the Sangam area are heavily waterlogged. Temples, homes, and marketplaces near the riverbanks are now partially submerged, forcing residents to either shift to safer places or rely on makeshift arrangements.
Emergency Response:
The district administration has sounded an alert and deployed NDRF and SDRF teams for rescue and relief operations. Boats have been arranged for commuting in several colonies. Camps for displaced families are being set up with food, medical aid, and basic facilities.
Voices from the Ground:
A resident from Salori said, “We haven't seen such water levels in years. The streets are now rivers. We're afraid things might get worse if the rain doesn’t stop.”
Officials Speak:
Speaking to the media, the District Magistrate of Prayagraj stated, “We are monitoring the situation closely. Evacuation from vulnerable areas is underway. People are advised to stay indoors and avoid venturing into waterlogged zones.”
Pilgrims and Tourism Hit:
With the Ganga Ghats inundated, pilgrim footfall has dropped drastically. Several boats have been docked, and access to the sacred Triveni Sangam is currently restricted.

Stay updated via local authorities.
