Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini Sets June 30 Deadline for Drain Cleaning, Warns Officials Against Delays

With the monsoon season approaching, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has issued a strict directive to ensure that all major drains, sewer channels and stormwater drains across the state are cleaned by June 30. Making it clear that negligence will not be tolerated, the Chief Minister warned officials that they would be held accountable if civic preparations fall short and lead to waterlogging or sanitation issues.

Chairing a high-level review meeting on urban infrastructure and monsoon preparedness, Saini stressed that preventive action is essential to protect public health and minimise flooding during heavy rainfall. He instructed civic bodies to maintain regular cleaning of street drains and ensure lime is sprinkled wherever necessary to reduce the risk of infections.

The Chief Minister also announced a series of measures aimed at improving sanitation management in urban areas. To encourage better performance, municipal corporations and municipal councils will introduce a quarterly ward ranking system based on cleanliness and service delivery. The best-performing wards will be recognised on October 2, while sanitation workers delivering outstanding performance will also be honoured with awards.

Saini directed officials to ensure that door-to-door garbage collection is carried out consistently across every household. He emphasised that waste should not accumulate in public places and instructed authorities to equip all garbage collection vehicles with GPS tracking systems. The move is intended to improve monitoring, increase accountability and ensure timely waste disposal.

To strengthen community participation in urban governance, the Chief Minister also called for the development of a dedicated online portal for ward committees. He instructed officials to hold meetings with these committees every three months to review civic issues and gather feedback from local residents.

The meeting also focused on improving governance through greater use of digital systems. Saini directed all government departments to make the e-Office platform mandatory for official work. Employees will also be required to upload their monthly work reports on the Human Resource Management System (HRMS) portal. Officials were further instructed to ensure effective implementation of the CFMS and Intra Haryana digital platforms to improve administrative efficiency and transparency.

In the healthcare sector, the Chief Minister asked departments to accelerate the expansion of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme so that all eligible beneficiaries are enrolled at the earliest. He also directed authorities to strengthen district hospitals by improving healthcare infrastructure and integrating patients’ medical records and prescriptions with digital platforms for easier access and better service delivery.

Officials have been instructed to closely monitor the implementation of these directives, with the government aiming to improve sanitation, strengthen civic administration and enhance healthcare services before the onset of the monsoon.
