Nayab Saini to review Haryana law and order, hold Cabinet meeting after Singapore visit

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is set for two key meetings immediately after returning from his Singapore visit, with law and order taking centre stage on October 9 followed by a Cabinet meeting the next day. The back-to-back meetings are scheduled to take place at the Haryana Civil Secretariat.

Saini will chair a law and order review meeting at 3 pm on October 9, where senior officials from the Home and Police departments are expected to brief him on the security situation across the state. The Director General of Police (DGP) and Home Secretary will be present as the government reviews crime prevention measures, police action and the challenges facing law enforcement agencies.

The meeting comes amid continued political criticism over the law and order situation in Haryana. Concerns surrounding the activities of organised criminal networks, including gangsters, and serious incidents reported from different districts have added pressure on the police to strengthen its response.

The review is expected to cover major areas of concern, including organised crime, gangster networks and serious criminal cases. Senior police officials may also brief the chief minister on action taken against accused persons and the measures being implemented in districts considered more sensitive from a law and order perspective.

The government is also likely to take stock of the situation on a district-by-district basis. Based on the feedback from police officials, Saini may issue directions on strengthening surveillance, improving crime prevention and ensuring quicker action in serious cases.

The law and order review will be followed by a meeting of the state Cabinet at 11 am on October 10. During the meeting, Saini is expected to brief his ministerial colleagues about the discussions held during his Singapore visit, including investment-related memoranda of understanding and interactions with potential investors.

The Cabinet may also consider proposals from different departments and discuss decisions linked to the government’s upcoming agenda. The meeting will provide an opportunity for the government to take forward some of the investment-related discussions held during the chief minister’s overseas visit.

Another issue that could come into focus after Saini’s return is the appointment of a new Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister. Arun Gupta, who currently holds the post, is due to retire, leaving the government to decide on his successor. A decision on the appointment is expected to be considered after the chief minister’s return.

The Cabinet meeting is also part of the Haryana government’s regular administrative schedule. The state government generally convenes Cabinet meetings periodically to consider policy decisions, departmental proposals and other matters requiring approval at the Council of Ministers level.

For Saini, the two-day schedule brings together two immediate priorities: reviewing the state’s internal security and taking forward the government’s economic and administrative agenda following his Singapore visit. The presence of senior police and Home Department officials at the first meeting is expected to keep the focus firmly on law and order before the Cabinet takes up broader government business the following day.
