Actors Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on August 7 as they continued promotions for their upcoming film ‘Batwara 1947’. The meeting came a week ahead of the film’s scheduled theatrical release and drew attention as the cast promoted a story set against the backdrop of India’s Partition.

The actors had earlier participated in promotional activities for the film in Lucknow. Sunny Deol’s son, actor Karan Deol, was also present during the promotional event. Following the engagement, Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Minister at his official residence, with photographs from the meeting subsequently shared on social media.

Sunny Deol calls meeting with Yogi Adityanath warm and pleasant

Sharing photographs from the meeting on Instagram, Sunny Deol described his interaction with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister as a warm and pleasant one. He expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to meet Yogi Adityanath during his visit to Lucknow.

Yogi Adityanath also shared pictures from the meeting on X, referring to it as a courtesy meeting with the two well-known actors.

The interaction took place as the cast stepped up the promotional campaign for ‘Batwara 1947’, which explores the human impact of the Partition and the upheaval experienced by families during the period.

What is ‘Batwara 1947’ about?

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, ‘Batwara 1947’ features Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta in lead roles, alongside Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh. The film is set during the turbulent period surrounding the Partition and focuses on a family caught amid violence, displacement and the uncertainty of the time.

The project also brings Santoshi and Sunny Deol together again after several years. Their previous collaborations have included films that became notable milestones in Hindi cinema, making their reunion one of the talking points around the upcoming release.

The film’s music has been composed by AR Rahman, while the lyrics have been written by Javed Akhtar. It is produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit.

‘Batwara 1947’ is scheduled to arrive in cinemas worldwide on August 14, with the release timed around Partition Day. The makers are now intensifying promotions across cities as they look to build interest in the historical drama ahead of its theatrical debut.
