Bangladesh Air Force Jet Crashes Into School, Multiple Dead

Bangladesh Air Force Jet Crashes Into School Building, Killing Several Including Students and Pilot

Tragedy struck in Bangladesh on Tuesday morning when a Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) jet crashed into a school building in a densely populated area, resulting in multiple fatalities, including schoolchildren and the pilot.

The incident occurred around 10:15 AM local time in the outskirts of Chittagong, where the fighter jet, identified as part of a routine training exercise, lost control and plummeted into the St. Michael’s Public School building during class hours. Authorities have confirmed that at least 7 people have died, including three students, two staff members, and the pilot, with several others critically injured.

    Eyewitnesses Describe Horror

Local residents and school staff reported hearing a loud roar followed by an explosion and plumes of smoke. “It happened in seconds. The plane came down almost vertically and hit the rear side of the building. We heard screaming everywhere,” said Rafiq Hossain, a shopkeeper near the school.

Emergency services rushed to the scene within minutes, and rescue operations are ongoing. Firefighters worked alongside the military and police to evacuate survivors from the damaged building.

    Investigation Underway

In a statement, the Bangladesh Air Force confirmed the crash, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of life. "We are cooperating fully with civil authorities and have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash," a BAF spokesperson said.

Preliminary reports suggest the aircraft may have suffered a technical failure during flight, though officials have not ruled out other possibilities.

    Government Response

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina offered condolences to the victims' families and called for a thorough investigation. “This is a national tragedy. We must ensure accountability and strengthen safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future,” the Prime Minister stated during a press briefing.

    School Temporarily Closed

St. Michael’s Public School has been temporarily closed, and trauma counseling is being arranged for survivors and families affected by the crash.
