PM Modi in Thailand: Backs Development, Mourns Quake Victims
During his official visit to Thailand on April 3, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India's commitment to regional cooperation and mutual growth. Speaking alongside Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, he announced that India and Thailand would enhance their diplomatic relationship to a strategic partnership.
PM Modi also expressed deep sorrow for the victims of the recent earthquake in Thailand, which occurred on March 28, 2025. He conveyed India’s solidarity with the Thai people and wished for a swift recovery for those affected by the disaster.
In his address, PM Modi highlighted the strong cultural and spiritual ties between India and Thailand, rooted in Buddhism and the Ramayana. As a mark of this connection, the Thai government released a special postage stamp featuring Ramayana murals, honoring the shared heritage of both nations.
On geopolitical matters, PM Modi reaffirmed India’s vision for the Indo-Pacific region, stressing the importance of a free, open, and rules-based order. He stated, "India supports ASEAN unity and remains committed to a peaceful and inclusive Indo-Pacific. We believe in development (vikaasvaad), not expansion (vistaarvaad)."
This visit marks a significant step in strengthening India-Thailand relations, with both nations focusing on economic collaboration, security cooperation, and cultural exchange.
