By Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced plans to provide government jobs to one lakh young people over the next six months, with around 77,000 positions expected to come from the police and Home Guards departments. The recruitment process, he said, will begin from September 19.
Speaking in Gorakhpur on Wednesday, Yogi said the state government had already provided government employment to around 9.5 lakh youths and that another one lakh recruitments would be completed before the next election is announced. He made the announcement while inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for 119 development projects with a combined value of around ₹40 crore.
Yogi Targets 1 Lakh More Government Recruitments
The Chief Minister said the upcoming recruitment drive would create new opportunities for young people across the state. A significant share of the vacancies will be in the police and Home Guards departments, which together account for nearly 77,000 of the proposed recruitments.
Yogi also compared the current recruitment process with the period before 2017. He alleged that government vacancies at that time were affected by what he referred to as a “Saifai syndicate”, claiming that candidates faced demands for money when recruitment opportunities were announced.
Pension Benefits May Also Be Increased
Alongside the employment announcement, Yogi said the government was preparing to increase both the pension amount and the number of beneficiaries under welfare schemes for senior citizens, destitute women and people with disabilities.
At present, around 1.1 crore people receive an annual pension of ₹12,000 under these schemes. The Chief Minister said changes to the existing arrangements would be announced soon.
Law and Order Linked to Development
Yogi argued that economic development and infrastructure growth depend on a stable law-and-order environment. He said the state government had focused on establishing what he described as the rule of law since 2017 and had simultaneously expanded infrastructure and public amenities.
Referring to organised crime and mafias, the Chief Minister said those involved in such activities were either in jail or had left the state. He also claimed that people now felt more secure during festivals and public events.
The Chief Minister linked the change in Uttar Pradesh’s economic image to improvements in roads, connectivity, infrastructure and investment. He said the state had moved away from its earlier “BIMARU” tag and was now emerging as an important contributor to India’s economic growth.
According to Yogi, conditions before 2017, including what he described as poor law and order, extortion and disorder, had discouraged people from outside the state from working or investing in Uttar Pradesh. He said the government was now trying to generate more employment by expanding industries and accelerating development projects.
Warning Against Caste and Regional Division
Yogi also appealed to people to remain cautious about attempts to divide society along caste, regional or linguistic lines.
He said social unity was necessary for sustained development and warned that divisions along these lines could create an environment of insecurity and conflict. His remarks came in the context of his broader argument that social stability and development are closely connected.
Gorakhpur Development Cited as an Example
The Chief Minister highlighted several projects and infrastructure changes in Gorakhpur to illustrate the city’s development over the past several years.
Among the projects he mentioned were the reopening of the Gorakhpur fertiliser factory, four-lane road connectivity, flyovers and overbridges, the development of Ramgarh Tal as a tourism destination, improvements at BRD Medical College, and the establishment of AIIMS Gorakhpur.
He also pointed to industrial expansion as a source of local employment. Referring to the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA), Yogi said around 500 factories had been established in the industrial area and were providing employment to nearly 50,000 young people.
He said the growth of local industries had also helped reduce migration from the region by creating more employment opportunities closer to home.
Special Camp Planned Under Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan
The Chief Minister further announced that a week-long special camp would begin on October 7 under the Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan. The campaign will focus on identifying people who have been left out of government welfare schemes for various reasons and helping eligible beneficiaries access those benefits.
According to the announcement, the campaign is being organised to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years in public life.
115 Municipal Works Launched in Gorakhpur
During his Gorakhpur visit, Yogi inaugurated the newly constructed Kalyan Mandapam at Jungle Nakha No. 2 and laid foundation stones for 115 development works of the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation.
The municipal projects cover basic infrastructure requirements in different colonies and have an estimated combined cost of ₹28.91 crore.
The Chief Minister’s announcement on government recruitment comes as the Uttar Pradesh government continues to highlight employment generation, industrial investment and infrastructure development as key areas of its governance agenda.
