Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reassured the nation that India is capable of managing the challenges emerging from the ongoing conflict in West Asia, saying the country has faced global crises before and emerged stronger. Addressing a public gathering in Tiruchirappalli, the Prime Minister urged citizens to remain calm and avoid reacting to unverified information about energy shortages or supply disruptions.
Modi said the tensions in West Asia have affected global energy supply chains, creating uncertainty in international oil markets. However, he stressed that the government is closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to protect India’s interests. According to him, the country’s policy approach remains guided by the principle of putting India’s needs first, particularly during times of international instability.
The Prime Minister highlighted how India had demonstrated resilience during the global COVID-19 crisis, when the country managed to protect its citizens while maintaining essential services and supply chains. Drawing a parallel, he expressed confidence that the nation would once again overcome the current challenges posed by geopolitical tensions.
He also appealed to the public to remain responsible in how they respond to news related to the situation. “There is no need to panic or believe rumours,” Modi said, emphasising the importance of relying on verified information. He added that collective calm and cooperation among citizens play a crucial role in maintaining stability during periods of uncertainty.
The Prime Minister noted that India has spent years strengthening its energy security through strategic planning and diversification of supply sources. By expanding import partnerships and improving domestic energy infrastructure, the country has created multiple options to secure fuel supplies even when global trade routes face disruptions.
Government officials have repeatedly stated in recent days that India’s crude oil and gas supplies remain stable despite the tensions in West Asia. Energy procurement has been diversified, and alternative shipping routes and supplier nations are being used to maintain steady inflows of fuel.
Modi said such long-term planning has placed India in a stronger position compared with many other countries that remain heavily dependent on limited energy corridors. According to him, these structural reforms and diversified sourcing strategies provide the flexibility needed to respond effectively to unexpected global developments.
Reiterating his confidence in the country’s collective strength, the Prime Minister said India’s ability to remain united and disciplined during crises has been recognised globally. He expressed hope that citizens would once again demonstrate the same maturity and resilience while the government continues to work to safeguard energy supplies and economic stability.
