Sonam Wangchuk Praises Vande Bharat Journey, Calls Indian Railways a Matter of Pride

Scientist and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has lauded the Indian Railways after travelling on the Vande Bharat Express during his return journey to Ladakh. Sharing his experience on social media, Wangchuk described the trip as memorable and reiterated his admiration for India’s growing railway infrastructure while also calling for the fulfilment of commitments made to students during recent protests.

His remarks came after he concluded his hunger strike, received medical treatment at a Gurugram hospital, and began his journey back to Ladakh via Jammu and Kashmir.

In a video shared online, Wangchuk said rail travel has always been his preferred mode of transportation. He particularly praised the Vande Bharat service connecting Delhi with Jammu and Kashmir, describing the journey as smooth and comfortable.

He also spoke about witnessing the Chenab Rail Bridge during the trip, calling it a remarkable engineering achievement and describing the experience as “beautiful.” Wangchuk said he felt proud of the progress made by Indian Railways and appreciated the country’s efforts in strengthening connectivity to remote regions.

After spending a night in Kashmir to rest, Wangchuk continued his journey to Ladakh. Concluding his message, he appealed for collective efforts to build a stronger and more progressive India.

Meanwhile, Parliament continued discussions on examination reforms, with the Lok Sabha passing the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 by voice vote. The legislation proposes stricter punishments for examination malpractices and stronger safeguards against question paper leaks.

Separately, the Supreme Court directed the Delhi Government to ensure proper medical treatment for protesters who allegedly sustained pellet gun injuries during demonstrations. A Bench headed by the Chief Justice instructed authorities to provide necessary healthcare to the petitioners and others in similar circumstances.
