By Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday launched a strong political attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP) during a public rally in Ghazipur’s Muhammadabad, while unveiling and inaugurating development projects worth around ₹692 crore. Addressing a large gathering, the Chief Minister combined his government’s development agenda with criticism of the state’s previous political leadership, particularly over issues of law and order.
Speaking in a region once considered the political stronghold of late gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, Yogi said Uttar Pradesh has undergone a significant transformation under the BJP government. He asserted that the state’s policy of “zero tolerance” towards crime had dismantled the influence of organised criminal networks and restored public confidence.
The Chief Minister accused the Samajwadi Party of providing political patronage to criminal elements in the past and alleged that such politics had weakened governance and public security. Without naming every individual directly, he referred to those who, according to him, had supported mafia figures, stating that such forces were “destined to be ruined.”
Yogi also criticised Ghazipur MP Afzal Ansari, saying the district needed representatives who would focus on development and public welfare rather than remain associated with controversies. He urged voters to elect leaders who would raise local issues effectively and contribute to the district’s progress.
Recalling the killing of former MLA Krishnanand Rai, the Chief Minister said the incident reflected an era when criminal influence had become deeply entrenched in politics. He maintained that the current government had acted decisively against organised crime and ensured that law and order remained a top priority across the state.
Alongside his political remarks, Yogi highlighted several infrastructure projects for Ghazipur. He inaugurated 83 completed projects and laid the foundation stone for 185 new works, together valued at approximately ₹692 crore. The projects are expected to benefit residents of Ghazipur, Muhammadabad, Jakhania, Saidpur, Zamania, Zahoorabad and Jangipur assembly constituencies.
The Chief Minister said improved road connectivity had significantly reduced travel time between Ghazipur and Lucknow. According to him, journeys that once took nearly 8 to 10 hours can now be completed in around three to three-and-a-half hours due to better highway infrastructure. He also announced plans to extend the Purvanchal Expressway from Ghazipur to Shaktinagar, linking Chandauli and Varanasi.
Yogi praised the district’s contribution to the nation, paying tribute to Param Vir Chakra awardee Abdul Hamid and recognising the large number of serving and retired defence personnel from Gahmar village. He also highlighted Ghazipur’s historical and cultural significance, describing it as a land that has consistently contributed to India’s military and freedom movements.
The Chief Minister further accused previous governments of neglecting national icons while promoting the legacy of foreign invaders. He said the BJP-led government had honoured historical figures such as Maharaja Suheldev through memorials, educational institutions and public infrastructure, while also improving connectivity and public facilities in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Concluding his address, Yogi said the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government were working together to improve opportunities for farmers, youth, women and traders. Referring to initiatives such as Startup India, Stand-Up India, Digital India and Mission Rojgar, he said the government’s focus remained on employment generation, infrastructure development and strengthening public services. He urged people to continue supporting what he described as a governance model centred on security, development and good governance.
