PM Modi, Amit Shah Among 40 Star Campaigners as BJP Gears Up for Assam Assembly Polls

The election battle in Assam is set to intensify as the Bharatiya Janata Party has announced a list of 40 star campaigners, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, for the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled next month. With a single-phase polling plan and a tight campaign window, the party is preparing for an aggressive outreach strategy across the state.

State BJP president Dilip Saikia said the list of star campaigners has already been approved by the Election Commission of India after being forwarded by the party’s central leadership. The move signals the party’s intent to deploy top national and state leaders to strengthen its position in what is expected to be a closely watched electoral contest in the Northeast.

Apart from Modi and Shah, several senior leaders will campaign across key constituencies. The list includes BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. The party has also proposed the participation of prominent chief ministers, including Devendra Fadnavis, Yogi Adityanath, and Mohan Charan Majhi.

Campaign planning is already underway, with major rallies being proposed in districts such as Darrang and Udalguri, where Shah and Rajnath Singh are expected to address large gatherings. The BJP leadership believes early campaigning will help consolidate support, especially as the nomination process concludes and the election timeline moves quickly.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the party intends to begin its campaign immediately after the last date for filing nominations, leaving little gap before polling day. With only around 16 days between the nomination deadline and voting, the BJP is aiming to make full use of the limited campaign period. Sarma expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, claiming that the NDA alliance has the potential to secure over 100 seats in the 126-member Assembly.

During his visit to Dima Hasao district, Sarma urged voters to support BJP candidate Rupali Langthasa in the Haflong constituency, highlighting development and improved peace in the region under the current government. He said the hill district has seen better infrastructure and stability in recent years, which the party hopes will translate into electoral support.

As Assam heads toward polling, the BJP’s strategy of deploying top leadership and focusing on rapid campaigning suggests a high-stakes contest, with national leaders expected to play a crucial role in shaping the electoral narrative across the state.
