BJP Slams Congress Over ‘Appeasement Politics’ in Assam’s Barak Valley Ahead of Polls

The political battle in Assam intensified on Saturday as BJP national president Nitin Nabin launched a sharp attack on the Congress, accusing previous governments of promoting appeasement politics and neglecting development in the Barak Valley region. Addressing a rally in Sribhumi district, Nabin said the upcoming elections are not just about choosing a government but about deciding the future direction of the region.

Speaking in support of the BJP candidate from Ram Krishna Nagar, Nabin alleged that earlier Congress administrations had focused more on vote bank politics than on improving law and order or creating opportunities for local residents. He claimed that Barak Valley had suffered due to what he described as policies favouring infiltrators over the interests of the native population, adding that people eventually rejected such politics and voted the Congress out of power.

The BJP leader highlighted that the current NDA-led government in Assam has tried to shift the focus toward development, infrastructure, and governance. According to him, the region is now witnessing improved connectivity, better administrative control, and increased attention to local issues that were previously ignored. He urged voters to continue supporting the BJP to ensure stability and sustained development in the state.

Nabin also framed the election as a choice between two contrasting political approaches — one centered on development and governance, and the other on appeasement and vote bank politics. He said the BJP’s agenda is to create opportunities for youth, strengthen security, and ensure that government schemes reach every section of society without discrimination.

The Barak Valley region remains politically significant in Assam due to its demographic diversity and electoral influence, making it a key battleground for both the BJP and Congress. As campaigning gains momentum, leaders from all major parties are stepping up their outreach to consolidate support in crucial constituencies.

With polling approaching, the BJP’s aggressive campaign in Barak Valley indicates a strategy to consolidate its support base by highlighting governance and security issues while putting the Congress on the defensive over its past record in the state.
