By Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday stepped up his attack on the Samajwadi Party, saying voters would reject the party in the next Assembly elections. He accused the SP of keeping the interests of the poor outside its political agenda and alleged that the party had previously used the state’s underprivileged sections for political gain.
Adityanath was speaking at a programme where mid-day meal cooks were felicitated and cashless healthcare cards were distributed. The event also saw the government announce a series of welfare measures for cooks working in government primary schools, including higher financial support and improved healthcare coverage.
Higher honorarium and healthcare support for cooks
The Chief Minister announced an increase in the honorarium paid to mid-day meal cooks, along with financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh in case of an accident. He also announced cashless medical treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh and doubled the amount provided for sarees from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000.
Adityanath said such measures reflected his government’s focus on extending social security to workers associated with the state’s basic education system.
Taking a dig at the previous SP government, he said these initiatives could have been introduced earlier but were not because, according to him, issues affecting poor families did not receive adequate attention.
Yogi targets Akhilesh Yadav
The Chief Minister also responded to a recent statement by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav about the party’s internal unity. Referring to Yadav as “Babua”, Adityanath said the SP leadership’s confidence in its family-based political structure would not prevent voters from rejecting the party.
Yadav had said on Saturday that several members of his family are MPs and that the party had remained united, while also pointing to the presence of Muslim leaders and “committed socialists” within the organisation.
Adityanath used the remark to sharpen his criticism of the SP, asserting that the party’s political fortunes would ultimately be decided by voters in the upcoming Assembly election.
Allegations against the Samajwadi Party
The Chief Minister accused SP leaders of putting family interests ahead of those of ordinary people. He further alleged that the previous SP government was associated with corruption and had allowed the state to become a favourable environment for criminal elements.
His remarks come as political parties begin intensifying their preparations and public outreach ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The BJP and SP are expected to remain key contenders in the state’s electoral contest, with welfare delivery, law and order and governance likely to remain central issues in the campaign.
The latest comments from Adityanath underline the BJP government’s focus on projecting its welfare measures while simultaneously targeting the SP’s record in government.
