By Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered free testing for Influenza A (H1N1), commonly known as swine flu, at all government healthcare facilities across the state. The move comes as authorities step up surveillance and preparedness for seasonal influenza, particularly in districts reporting a higher number of cases.
During a review meeting on Wednesday, Adityanath directed health officials to strengthen testing, treatment and monitoring arrangements and ensure that patients suspected of having H1N1 can access testing without facing a financial burden. He also called for hospitals to remain prepared to deal with serious cases and any possible increase in infections.
H1N1 testing to be available free of cost
Under the new directions, government hospitals and healthcare centres across Uttar Pradesh will provide H1N1 tests free of charge. The Chief Minister also instructed private hospitals and diagnostic facilities to follow the prescribed testing rates strictly and ensure that patients are not charged beyond the approved fee.
The decision is intended to make early testing more accessible, especially in districts where influenza cases are being reported in greater numbers.
Separate ICU facilities for serious cases
Adityanath directed hospitals to maintain sufficient stocks of medicines, testing kits and other essential supplies. Isolation arrangements should also remain ready for suspected patients.
For patients who develop serious complications and require intensive medical attention, hospitals have been asked to make arrangements for separate ICU facilities. Health officials have been told to continuously assess their preparedness so that treatment can be provided without delay if the number of cases rises.
Guidelines on prevention and treatment
The Chief Minister also asked officials to prepare and issue detailed guidelines covering H1N1 prevention, testing and treatment. He stressed the importance of strengthening tele-consultation services so that people can obtain medical advice without necessarily visiting hospitals for every concern.
The expanded use of tele-consultation is expected to provide patients with easier access to medical guidance while helping healthcare facilities manage patient loads more efficiently.
ANMs and ASHA workers to step up screening
To improve early detection, the government has directed health workers, including Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) and ASHA workers, to intensify screening for people showing symptoms associated with H1N1.
Frontline workers will help identify suspected cases and guide patients who require further examination or treatment to the appropriate healthcare facilities. Officials have been asked to ensure that potentially serious cases are identified at an early stage.
Yogi urges public to avoid panic and rumours
Along with medical preparedness, the Chief Minister stressed the need for clear and reliable public communication. Officials have been instructed to provide people with accurate information about H1N1, including preventive measures and when medical attention should be sought.
Adityanath also cautioned against the spread of rumours, misinformation and unnecessary fear. The government’s focus, he said, should be on timely testing, proper treatment and public awareness while maintaining close surveillance of the influenza situation across Uttar Pradesh.
