Uttar Pradesh is continuing to attract major global manufacturers, with aluminium beverage can makers Ball Corporation and Crown Holdings moving ahead with separate investment plans in the state. Senior delegations from both companies met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Thursday to discuss their proposed manufacturing projects and the opportunities emerging in Uttar Pradesh’s industrial sector.
Ball Corporation has proposed an investment of ₹2,913 crore for a large aluminium beverage can manufacturing facility at the Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Cluster (IMLC) in Meerut. Crown Holdings, meanwhile, has already taken forward its project at the IMLC in Unnao, with an investment of ₹2,078.44 crore. Together, the projects are expected to expand the state’s packaging and manufacturing ecosystem while generating employment across several supporting sectors.
Ball Corporation plans ₹2,913 crore Meerut facility
Ball Corporation CEO Ron Lewis, accompanied by the company’s senior leadership, met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during one of the meetings. Its Indian subsidiary, Ball Beverage Packaging India Pvt Ltd, has selected land at the IMLC in Meerut for the proposed facility.
The company plans to manufacture aluminium beverage cans, catering to the growing demand from India’s beverage industry. The project has been extended incentives under Uttar Pradesh’s FDI/FCI, Fortune Global 500 and Fortune India 500 Companies Investment Promotion Policy 2023.
The proposed investment is expected to add to the state’s manufacturing capacity while strengthening the local supply network around the packaging industry.
Deepak Kumar, Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner (IIDC) and CEO of the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), along with Shashank Chaudhry, Additional CEO of Invest UP, were also present during the meeting.
Crown project moves ahead in Unnao
The Chief Minister also held a separate meeting with senior representatives of Crown Holdings, including Djalma Novaes, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, and Mark Ketcheson, President, Bevcan EMEA.
The meeting came a day after Crown Holdings broke ground on its first greenfield aluminium beverage can manufacturing facility at the IMLC in Unnao.
The project represents an investment of ₹2,078.44 crore and will be spread across nearly 40 acres at Plot No. 4 of the industrial cluster.
The proposed facility will manufacture aluminium beverage cans for India’s expanding beverage market. According to the government, it is expected to generate more than 200 direct jobs and over 1,500 indirect employment opportunities.
These indirect opportunities are likely to extend across logistics, warehousing, transportation, maintenance, supplier networks and other ancillary activities linked to the manufacturing operation.
Packaging ecosystem set for wider expansion
The government said the discussions with Ball Corporation and Crown Holdings reflect the increasing interest of international manufacturers in Uttar Pradesh.
The two projects are expected to do more than add individual manufacturing units. Their presence could support the development of a wider packaging ecosystem by increasing demand for logistics, transportation, maintenance services, suppliers and other industrial support businesses.
The government also sees such investments as part of its broader effort to expand advanced manufacturing in the state and build deeper industrial supply chains.
Officials said projects of this scale can help create employment beyond factory premises by bringing associated businesses and service providers into the surrounding industrial ecosystem.
Uttar Pradesh targets larger manufacturing role
The investments by Ball and Crown come as Uttar Pradesh seeks to position itself as a major destination for large-scale and advanced manufacturing.
The state government has been focusing on industrial clusters and investment-friendly policies to attract both domestic and international companies. The Ball and Crown projects are being viewed as part of this wider industrial expansion, particularly in manufacturing segments linked to fast-growing consumer industries.
The government said these investments will contribute to expanding production capacity, strengthening supply chains and creating new employment opportunities, while supporting Uttar Pradesh’s longer-term ambition of becoming an advanced manufacturing hub and contributing to its target of building a $1 trillion economy.
