By Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has welcomed Galgotias University’s new academic partnership with Japan’s Yamanashi Prefecture and the University of Yamanashi, calling it an important step towards expanding international collaboration in education, research and industry. The agreement brings the university and Japanese institutions together around emerging technologies including green hydrogen, electric vehicles and semiconductors.
The MoU was signed during a visit by a more than 200-member Japanese delegation led by Yamanashi Governor Kotaro Nagasaki. Galgotias University was the only university selected for a visit by the delegation during the Uttar Pradesh-Japan Investment Summit 2026. The engagement comes alongside growing Japanese investment interest in the state and is expected to open further opportunities for student and faculty exchanges, joint research and industry-linked innovation.
Yogi calls for more India-Japan university partnerships
Welcoming the agreement, Yogi Adityanath said he was pleased that a university in Uttar Pradesh had entered into a formal partnership with Japanese institutions. He expressed the hope that more universities across the state would establish similar academic and institutional links with Japan.
The collaboration is focused initially on three areas with growing global importance—green hydrogen, electric vehicles and semiconductor technology. However, the partnership is expected to provide scope for cooperation across other academic and technological fields as well.
The discussions covered possibilities such as joint research, technology transfer, faculty and student exchange programmes and stronger connections between universities and industry.
Academic partnership comes amid rising Japanese investment
The university-level engagement is taking place against the backdrop of increasing Japanese investment in Uttar Pradesh. The Japanese delegation’s visit followed investment proposals worth around ₹3,000 crore in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region, which are expected to create employment for approximately 10,000 young people.
Galgotias University Chancellor Sunil Galgotia attributed the growing investment interest to the state government’s emphasis on infrastructure, security and ease of doing business. He said the environment created under Yogi Adityanath’s leadership had helped strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s appeal among investors.
Speaking to the Japanese delegation, Sunil Galgotia also pointed to the transformation of the Jewar region. He said an area once associated with crime had emerged as an important industrial and infrastructure destination, particularly with the development of the Noida International Airport in the YEIDA region of Gautam Buddh Nagar.
Japanese governor impressed by Galgotias campus
The Japanese delegation toured Galgotias University and examined its laboratories, classrooms and other facilities. The visitors also discussed the university’s approach to practical and industry-oriented learning.
Governor Kotaro Nagasaki appeared particularly impressed by the scale and facilities of the campus. In an informal remark during the visit, he said that if he were 30 years younger, he would consider enrolling at Galgotias University himself.
The university said the interaction reflected the importance of creating academic environments that combine modern infrastructure with active learning and industry-focused education.
Focus on green technology and future skills
Galgotias University CEO Dr Dhruv Galgotia described the agreement with Yamanashi Prefecture and the University of Yamanashi as a significant milestone for both the institution and Uttar Pradesh.
He said the university valued the trust and collaborative approach shown by its Japanese partners and credited the state’s investment-friendly environment with helping institutions in Uttar Pradesh build stronger international relationships.
The university plans to use the partnership to expand collaborative research and industry-linked innovation in sustainable technologies. The focus is expected to help align its research programmes and talent development with emerging requirements in India and international markets.
Galgotias University’s academic and industry network
Galgotias University describes itself as a multidisciplinary institution focused on education, research, innovation, international partnerships and industry-oriented learning. It has more than 50,000 students and a global alumni network exceeding 100,000 graduates.
In the QS World University Rankings 2027, the university was placed in the 1201–1400 global band, with a reported rank of 16th among private universities and 46th among all universities in India. In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026, it was placed in the 1201–1500 global band and ranked 27th among private universities and 65th among all universities in India. The university also holds NAAC A+ accreditation.
Its academic programmes cover areas including engineering, artificial intelligence, computer science, semiconductors, business, law, media, design, health sciences, hospitality and liberal education, along with emerging interdisciplinary fields.
The university said its students received more than 5,500 job offers from over 1,250 recruiters in 2026. Its industry network includes companies such as Apple, Infosys, IBM, Intel, Cisco, Tata Technologies, L&T EduTech, Capgemini and Salesforce.
The new Japan partnership adds another dimension to this network, with the university seeking to build deeper links between international academic institutions, research and industry while preparing students for technology-driven sectors.
