Yogi Adityanath encourages nervous young speaker at HCLTech event in Lucknow

A brief moment at an HCLTech event in Lucknow has drawn attention online after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath noticed a young speaker struggling with nerves and responded with a simple gesture of encouragement. Rather than letting the moment become uncomfortable, the chief minister applauded to help her regain confidence.

The young woman, identified as Rachna Rai from Kauriram in Gorakhpur, was addressing the audience during a programme marking 10 years of HCLTech’s operations in Lucknow. Standing before a large gathering and senior dignitaries, Rai appeared to lose her train of thought for a moment and became hesitant while speaking.

Yogi Adityanath noticed the hesitation and began applauding, encouraging others in the audience to do the same. The response appeared to ease the pressure on Rai, who gathered herself and continued with her speech.

Once she regained her composure, Rai was able to speak more confidently and complete her address. A video showing the moment has since circulated widely on social media, with many viewers focusing on the chief minister’s decision to respond immediately rather than allowing the young speaker’s nervousness to linger.

The incident took place during HCLTech’s 10th-anniversary programme in Lucknow, an event that also marked the company’s continuing expansion in Uttar Pradesh. HCLTech has announced further investment in its Lucknow operations, while the company and the state government have also highlighted initiatives aimed at developing technology skills among young people in the state.

The brief interaction between the chief minister and Rai, however, became one of the more talked-about moments from the programme. For many viewers, the significance of the video was less about the formal event and more about the way a nervous speaker was given an opportunity to settle down and continue.

Several social media users praised the gesture, describing it as a timely show of encouragement. One widely shared reaction called it an example of leadership through a “quiet nudge”, noting that Rai was able to regain her confidence and finish her speech after the applause.

Other reactions were more light-hearted, with some users suggesting that a direct conversation between the chief minister and the young speaker would have made the moment even more memorable.

The video has consequently attracted attention beyond the HCLTech event itself. While the programme was primarily focused on technology, investment and the company’s decade-long presence in Lucknow, the brief exchange offered a more personal moment that resonated with social media audiences.

For a young speaker facing a large audience, losing confidence for a few seconds is hardly unusual. In this case, a few moments of applause helped turn an awkward pause into a moment of encouragement—and allowed Rai to continue speaking with renewed confidence.
