Dharmendra’s passing on November 24 deeply affected the film industry, leading to the temporary shelving of the much-awaited Apne 2. The film was originally set to reunite Dharmendra with his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, and director Anil Sharma had confirmed the project was halted.
Producer Deepak Mukut has now revealed that the team is reworking the script to continue the film as a tribute to the late actor. He shared that Dharmendra was extremely excited about Apne 2, especially the idea of working with his sons and grandson Karan. The revised script will now focus on Sunny and Bobby’s characters, with efforts to respectfully incorporate Dharmendra’s presence in some form.
Mukut added that Apne 2 will serve as a shraddhanjali to Dharmendra:
“If I cannot make a movie with Dharamji, I can pay my respects to him through it.”
The sequel will continue the storyline from the first film, introducing Karan as Angad’s (Sunny Deol’s) son.
The original Apne (2007), featuring Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Katrina Kaif, Shilpa Shetty, and Kirron Kher, was directed by Anil Sharma and released on June 29, 2007. It is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
