Haryana Pushes Ahead with Metro and Namo Bharat Expansion, ₹33,000-Crore Mobility Plan Takes Shape

Haryana is moving closer to a major transformation in urban transportation, with the state government accelerating plans to expand both Metro and Namo Bharat rail networks across key growth corridors. Officials say the ambitious infrastructure push is aimed at improving connectivity, reducing travel time, and supporting the region’s rapidly expanding urban population.

The latest review of transport projects indicates that several long-pending proposals are now entering crucial stages of planning and approval. Once implemented, these projects are expected to strengthen links between major cities, industrial hubs, and emerging residential clusters, creating a more integrated public transport ecosystem across Haryana and the National Capital Region.

During a review meeting of the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) in Chandigarh, Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi assessed the progress of multiple metro and regional rapid transit projects. Among the key developments is the proposed Metro corridor connecting Gurugram’s Sector-56 to Panchgaon.

The elevated corridor, stretching approximately 35.25 kilometres, is expected to include 28 stations. Officials informed the meeting that detailed studies have been completed and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared for submission to the Chief Minister for approval. The project is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Gurugram and the fast-growing southern urban belt.

Another important proposal under consideration is the Ballabhgarh-Palwal Metro corridor. The planned route will cover nearly 30.30 kilometres and include 18 elevated stations. The project is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters travelling between Faridabad and Palwal while easing pressure on existing road networks.

The state government has also granted in-principle approval for providing around 10 hectares of land free of cost for the Narela-Kundli Metro extension project. The decision is likely to give fresh momentum to a project that has remained pending for several years and is considered crucial for improving connectivity between Delhi and Haryana.

Officials also reviewed the revised DPR for the Delhi-Panipat-Karnal Namo Bharat corridor, one of the most significant regional transport projects currently under discussion. Spanning approximately 136.3 kilometres, the corridor is estimated to cost more than ₹33,000 crore and is expected to dramatically reduce travel time between Delhi and major cities in Haryana.

Progress on the Gurugram-Faridabad-Noida-Greater Noida Namo Bharat corridor was also reviewed during the meeting. These projects collectively form part of a broader vision to create seamless, high-speed regional connectivity across the NCR.

Meanwhile, HMRTC reported encouraging operational growth. The corporation’s revenue has increased by nearly 47 percent, reaching around ₹35 crore. HMRTC Managing Director Chandrashekhar Khare said the steady rise in ridership reflects growing public confidence in rapid transit services and highlights the increasing demand for reliable public transportation options.

With multiple projects advancing simultaneously, Haryana appears to be laying the groundwork for a modern transport network that could reshape commuting patterns across the state in the coming years.
