“People’s Mandate for Change”: PM Modi Hails BJP’s Breakthrough in Bengal, NDA’s Strong Return in Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday described the latest round of Assembly election results as a powerful endorsement of governance and development politics, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made significant gains in West Bengal while the NDA secured another decisive victory in Assam.

Calling the outcome in Bengal “historic,” Modi said the results reflected the will of the people and a growing trust in what he termed a development-driven approach. “People’s power has clearly prevailed,” he said in a series of public messages, adding that the scale of support for the BJP marks a turning point in the state’s political journey.

For the BJP, the West Bengal verdict is more than just an electoral win—it represents years of groundwork finally bearing fruit. The Prime Minister acknowledged the role of party workers who, he said, stayed committed despite political challenges and worked consistently to expand the party’s base in a state long dominated by the All India Trinamool Congress.

He also sought to reassure voters, saying the party would focus on delivering a government that prioritises opportunity, inclusiveness, and dignity. The emphasis, he indicated, would be on translating electoral support into tangible improvements in governance and everyday life.

In Assam, the mood within the NDA camp was one of consolidation rather than surprise. The alliance’s return to power, Modi noted, reflects sustained public confidence in its development agenda. Over the past decade, the BJP-led coalition has steadily expanded its footprint in the Northeast, and the latest results appear to reinforce that trajectory.

“The people of Assam have once again placed their trust in development and stability,” Modi said, thanking voters across the state. He credited the alliance’s grassroots connect and governance record for maintaining its momentum in the region.

Beyond Bengal and Assam, the Prime Minister also acknowledged outcomes in other states and union territories, thanking voters in Puducherry for backing the NDA again, while congratulating rival parties in states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu for their performances.

Political observers see these results as part of a broader shift in India’s electoral landscape, where regional strongholds are increasingly becoming competitive. The BJP’s breakthrough in Bengal, in particular, is being viewed as a significant expansion of its geographical reach.

As the dust settles, attention is likely to shift from campaign rhetoric to governance delivery. With high expectations from voters in newly won territories, the BJP now faces the challenge of converting its electoral success into sustained administrative performance—something Modi underscored as the next priority.
