On Constitution Day (November 26, 2025), Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to fulfil their Constitutional duties, saying this would help build a Viksit Bharat. He called the Constitution a guiding “sacred document” and noted that November 26 has been observed as Constitution Day since 2015.
Mr. Modi said the Constitution enabled someone from his humble background to serve as Head of Government for over two decades. He recalled bowing at Parliament in 2014 and placing the Constitution on his forehead in 2019 as a mark of respect.
He said this year’s Constitution Day is special as it marks the 150th birth anniversaries of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Bhagwan Birsa Munda, praising their contributions to national unity and tribal empowerment. He added that the Constitution is now fully in force in Jammu & Kashmir after the removal of Articles 370 and 35(A).
The PM also highlighted the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram and the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, noting that these milestones remind citizens of the importance of Fundamental Duties under Article 51A.
Looking ahead to the Constitution’s centenary in 2049, Mr. Modi said today’s decisions will shape future generations. He urged citizens to strengthen democracy by voting and encouraged schools and colleges to honour first-time voters, stressing that instilling responsibility in youth builds a stronger nation.
