Mohan Bhagwat is set to arrive in Assam on May 13 for a three-day visit focused on organisational training and cadre development activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The visit comes at a politically significant time, just days after the formation of the new BJP-led NDA government in the state.
According to RSS functionaries, Bhagwat will participate in the ‘Karyakarta Vikas Varg (Second Year)’ programme being organised in Guwahati. The camp is one of the Sangh’s key internal training initiatives aimed at preparing volunteers for leadership roles and strengthening grassroots organisational work.
Swayamsevaks from different Northeastern states are expected to attend the training sessions during the camp. Senior RSS leaders and pracharaks will also be present throughout the programme, which focuses on ideological orientation, discipline, leadership skills and social outreach activities.
Sources associated with the organisation said Bhagwat is likely to address participants on issues related to nation-building, social harmony and expansion of the Sangh’s activities in the Northeast. He is also expected to discuss the growing role of grassroots workers in strengthening community engagement and organisational coordination across the region.
During his stay, the RSS chief is likely to hold meetings with senior Sangh functionaries from Assam and neighbouring states to review ongoing activities and future outreach plans.
The Northeast has become an important focus area for the RSS over the last decade, with the organisation steadily increasing its educational, cultural and social initiatives across the region. Sangh leaders have frequently visited Assam and other Northeastern states in recent years as part of efforts to expand the organisation’s network and connect with local communities.
The timing of Bhagwat’s visit has also drawn attention because it follows closely after the swearing-in of the NDA government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma for a second consecutive term. Political observers believe Assam continues to remain strategically important for both the BJP and the broader Sangh Parivar in the Northeast.
Security arrangements in Guwahati have been strengthened ahead of the RSS chief’s arrival. Local authorities are coordinating with organisers to ensure smooth conduct of the programme and movement during the visit.
The ‘Karyakarta Vikas Varg’ second-year training camp is attended only by selected volunteers who have already completed the first phase of RSS training. The programme is regarded within the organisation as an important step in grooming future leadership and expanding the Sangh’s ideological and social outreach.
Bhagwat’s Assam visit is expected to conclude on May 15 after the completion of the training sessions.
