Starlink Clarifies India Pricing Not Yet Live After Brief Glitch
Starlink has clarified that its satellite internet pricing for India has not been launched, despite brief visibility of placeholder figures on its website.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Lauren Dreyer stated:
“The Starlink India website is not live, service pricing for customers in India has not yet been announced, and we are not taking orders from customers in India.”
Dreyer explained that a configuration glitch had temporarily exposed “dummy test data,” adding that the figures seen online do not represent Starlink’s eventual pricing for the country. The issue was quickly resolved.
She also noted, “We’re eager to connect the people of India with Starlink’s high-speed internet, and our teams are focused on obtaining final government approvals to turn service (and the website) on.”
Starlink, a SpaceX subsidiary, has plans to offer residential satellite internet in India with features such as unlimited data, 99.9% uptime, and robust performance in remote regions underserved by traditional broadband. The company is preparing for commercial operations after receiving regulatory clearance from the Department of Telecommunications in July. It aims to compete with Jio-SES and Eutelsat OneWeb in the growing satellite communications market.
Gateway Network and Expansion in India
Starlink is building gateway earth stations in six cities—Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Noida—to support satellite-to-ground communication and ensure low-latency connectivity across the country.
The company also expanded its Bengaluru office in October, posting roles in payments, accounting, treasury, and tax operations. This direct-to-consumer approach differentiates Starlink from rivals that primarily target enterprise clients, and could significantly improve internet access in areas where fiber infrastructure remains too costly to deploy.
