UP Scholarship: 4.60 Lakh Students to Receive Over ₹148 Crore in Scholarship and Fee Reimbursement

UP Scholarship: 4.60 Lakh Students to Receive Over ₹148 Crore in Scholarship and Fee Reimbursement

More than 4.60 lakh students in Uttar Pradesh are set to receive over ₹148 crore in scholarship and fee reimbursement directly in their bank accounts. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will transfer the amount during a programme at Lok Bhawan at 10 am, providing financial assistance to students from different social categories.

The latest disbursement includes students from the Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, General Category and Minority communities. The Uttar Pradesh government says the scholarship system has been increasingly automated, helping reduce delays and improving transparency in the process of transferring financial assistance to eligible students.

Under the latest release, 2,23,615 students from the Backward Classes will receive ₹60.01 crore. Another 1,59,959 Scheduled Caste students will get ₹64.54 crore. The government has allocated ₹11.43 crore for 38,084 students from the General Category, while 38,901 minority students will receive ₹12.06 crore.

Together, the four categories account for more than 4.60 lakh beneficiaries and a total disbursement of over ₹148 crore.

Direct transfer to students’ bank accounts

The scholarship and fee reimbursement programme is aimed at helping students manage the cost of higher education. Scholarship support provides financial assistance to eligible students, while fee reimbursement covers eligible education fees paid by students.

Instead of relying on physical payments or intermediaries, the assistance is transferred directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries. This direct-transfer mechanism is intended to make the process easier to track and reduce the possibility of delays in reaching students.

The latest transfer is also part of a much larger scholarship programme being implemented in Uttar Pradesh.

During the 2025-26 financial year, more than 65.95 lakh students have so far been covered under scholarship and fee reimbursement schemes, with assistance exceeding ₹4,793 crore. The figures indicate the scale at which the programme is being implemented across the state.

Automation at the centre of scholarship distribution

The Uttar Pradesh government has increasingly linked scholarship distribution with an automated system. Under this approach, several stages of the process are handled digitally, allowing applications and payments to move through a more structured system.

According to the government, automation has helped bring greater transparency to scholarship distribution and has reduced the scope for unnecessary delays or irregularities. The system is also intended to ensure that financial assistance reaches eligible students within the required timeframe.

For students and their families, timely scholarship payments can make a significant difference in meeting education-related expenses. The government’s focus, therefore, is not only on expanding the number of beneficiaries but also on ensuring that the money reaches students directly and through a process that can be monitored.

The latest transfer of more than ₹148 crore is another instalment in this wider effort to provide financial support to students across Uttar Pradesh.
