Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the state’s products, entrepreneurs and supply chains are gaining increasing confidence among international buyers as Uttar Pradesh seeks to strengthen its position as a manufacturing and export hub. He made the remarks while inaugurating the fourth edition of the UP International Trade Show (UPITS) in Greater Noida on Friday along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The trade show has brought together more than 600 international buyers from 90 countries and around 2,400 exhibitors, according to organisers. The Uttar Pradesh government is expecting nearly 1.5 lakh business-to-business visitors during the event, which is showcasing everything from traditional crafts and regional products to modern manufacturing and industrial goods.
Yogi links global demand to stronger supply chains
Yogi said the growing presence of international buyers reflected rising confidence in the quality of products manufactured and produced in Uttar Pradesh. He attributed this growing trust to the state’s supply-chain network, entrepreneurs and efforts to connect local producers with larger domestic and international markets.
He said the state’s economic ecosystem was helping transform products that were once largely identified with local markets into brands with international reach. According to the Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh’s annual exports have now crossed ₹2 lakh crore.
Yogi also highlighted the importance of retaining traditional skills while adapting them to changing global markets. He said policy interventions, improved infrastructure and stronger market connections had helped address longstanding challenges faced by artisans and small producers.
Among the measures he cited were improvements in product design, packaging, certification and road connectivity. These, he said, were intended to make traditional products more competitive and improve their movement from production centres to markets.
79 UP products receive GI tags
The Chief Minister said 79 products from Uttar Pradesh’s MSME sector have received Geographical Indication (GI) tags, while applications for another 75 products are pending.
He also pointed to the growing international participation in UPITS as an indicator of the show’s expanding reach. Last year’s edition, he said, attracted around 550 international buyers from 72 countries, compared with more than 600 buyers from 90 countries at the current edition.
The trade show is being positioned as a platform where traditional enterprises can meet global buyers, while manufacturers and entrepreneurs can explore new markets, partnerships and investment opportunities.
Shah credited with ODOP push
Yogi also linked the state’s export strategy to the One District One Product (ODOP) programme. He credited Amit Shah with conceptualising elements of the initiative before the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, describing ODOP as a framework aimed at reviving traditional industries and connecting district-level products with wider markets.
The programme has been used to promote products associated with different districts while supporting local producers and enterprises.
During the inauguration, Shah and Yogi paid floral tributes to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya before touring the exhibition venue in an e-cart. They visited stalls and interacted with entrepreneurs participating in the trade show.
Shah also launched the One District-One Cuisine (ODOC) portal, which seeks to showcase Uttar Pradesh’s regional food traditions as part of the state’s wider branding and market-promotion efforts.
International pavilions focus on partnerships
The fourth edition of UPITS features dedicated pavilions from partner countries including Japan, Vietnam, Russia, Singapore, Austria and Belarus.
Yogi said such participation could open opportunities for technology transfers, business partnerships and joint ventures between companies from Uttar Pradesh and international markets.
He also referred to free trade agreements promoted by the Centre and said Uttar Pradesh was seeking to use these opportunities to attract companies that could manufacture products in the state and serve overseas markets.
The broader pitch of UPITS is centred on combining Uttar Pradesh’s traditional manufacturing and craft base with modern infrastructure, global market access and international partnerships. For the state government, the trade show is also an opportunity to present local entrepreneurs and products as part of a larger export-oriented economic ecosystem.
