US President Donald Trump hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Sunday for crucial talks aimed at ending the war with Russia. The two leaders briefly addressed reporters before beginning discussions on a new peace proposal.
Trump said diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict were in the “final stages” but stressed there was no fixed deadline. He added that Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom he spoke to earlier in the day, was “very serious” about reaching peace and that any agreement would include strong security guarantees for Ukraine with the involvement of European countries.
Earlier, Trump described his phone call with Putin as “very good and productive” and said the two leaders would speak again after the Florida talks.
Meanwhile, Russia reiterated its demand that Ukraine withdraw troops from parts of the eastern Donbas region, calling it essential for ending the war. Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov said Moscow opposed any temporary ceasefire, arguing it would only prolong the conflict by allowing Ukraine to rearm, and insisted that a final settlement must address what Russia calls the root causes of the war.
