Dharmendra Pradhan Credits Vidya Bharati’s Role in Shaping NEP as New Headquarters Opens in Delhi

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday highlighted the growing influence of Vidya Bharati in India’s education landscape, saying the organisation has played a key role in shaping several aspects of the National Education Policy (NEP). His remarks came during the inauguration of Vidya Bharati Bhawan, the organisation’s new central headquarters in New Delhi, which marks a major milestone in its institutional expansion.

The event was not just about opening a new building; it reflected a broader conversation around value-based education and the role of cultural-rooted learning in modern academic systems. With the new headquarters located at Deendayal Upadhyay Marg, Vidya Bharati now has a permanent base in the national capital, strengthening its administrative and coordination capabilities at a time when education reforms are gaining momentum across the country.

Addressing the gathering, Pradhan described Vidya Bharati as a reference point in areas such as mother tongue-based education, teacher training, skill development, and experiential learning. He noted that many provisions in the NEP, including bagless days and focus on regional languages, resonate with the organisation’s long-standing educational practices. According to him, institutions working at the grassroots level are essential in ensuring that policy reforms translate into real classroom outcomes.

Vidya Bharati General Secretary Deshraj Sharma said the organisation has evolved into one of the world’s largest non-governmental education networks, focusing not only on academic excellence but also on cultural awareness and character development. He also spoke about plans to strengthen digital outreach and expand communication platforms in the coming years.

Senior RSS leader Suresh Soni emphasized that while infrastructure and institutional growth are important, education must also nurture emotional and ethical values among students. He said the goal should be to create responsible citizens who can contribute to building a developed India by 2047.

According to organisational data, Vidya Bharati currently operates in 684 districts with more than 24,000 schools, 59 colleges, and two universities, reaching over 3.3 million students through a network of around 1.5 lakh teachers. Its outreach in rural and underserved regions through Ekal Vidyalayas and community learning centres has also expanded significantly in recent years.

The inauguration of Vidya Bharati Bhawan signals a new phase for the organisation, positioning it as a stronger institutional player in India’s evolving education ecosystem.
