Narendra Modi on Sunday called for responsible use of petrol, diesel and cooking gas, saying India must reduce unnecessary dependence on imported fuel at a time when global tensions and conflicts are impacting energy security across the world.
Addressing a public event in Hyderabad after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for development projects worth nearly ₹9,400 crore in Telangana, the Prime Minister said the ongoing instability in the Middle East has once again highlighted the importance of energy self-reliance for countries like India.
“Today, the need of the hour is to use petrol, diesel and gas with great restraint. Imported petroleum products should be used only as per necessity. This will not only save foreign exchange but also reduce the impact of global conflicts on our economy,” Modi said during his speech.
The Prime Minister stressed that India has been working aggressively over the last few years to strengthen its energy security through solar power expansion, ethanol blending, gas infrastructure and cleaner fuel alternatives. According to him, these efforts are helping the country remain better prepared during periods of global uncertainty.
Modi pointed out that India has emerged as one of the world’s leading countries in solar energy adoption. He also highlighted the rapid expansion of CNG networks, piped gas supply and LPG coverage under various central government schemes.
“Energy security is no longer just a policy discussion. Every country and every family is now realising its importance. India is investing heavily in renewable energy and alternative fuel systems so that future generations are less dependent on imported oil,” he said.
The Prime Minister also underlined that economic growth and infrastructure development remain key priorities for the Centre. He assured continued support for Telangana’s industrial and connectivity expansion while unveiling projects related to highways, railways, petroleum and textiles.
Among the major announcements was the four-laning of National Highway-167 connecting Gudebellur and Mahabubnagar under the Hyderabad-Panaji Economic Corridor. Modi also inaugurated railway infrastructure projects, including sections of the Kazipet-Vijayawada multi-tracking corridor and a rail underpass bypass project in Kazipet.
A major highlight of the visit was the launch of the PM MITRA textile park in Warangal, considered the country’s first fully operational mega textile park under the Centre’s integrated textile manufacturing initiative. Built at a cost of nearly ₹1,700 crore, the project aims to strengthen India’s textile value chain from production to exports.
The Prime Minister said such projects would generate employment, improve logistics and strengthen Telangana’s role in India’s economic growth story.
Several senior leaders, including Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Union ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, attended the programme held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre.
