By Haryana’s boxers have delivered an impressive performance at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, emerging as the backbone of India’s boxing campaign. Out of the 10 Indian boxers who have qualified for the finals, seven are from Haryana, putting the state firmly at the centre of India’s medal hopes.
With gold medal bouts now ahead, expectations are high that these athletes will convert their outstanding performances into podium finishes and add to India’s medal tally on the international stage.
In the men’s category, Sachin Siwach (60 kg), Ankush Panghal (80 kg), and Narendra Berwal (+90 kg) have secured places in the gold medal contests. On the women’s side, Sakshi Chaudhary (51 kg), Preeti Panwar (54 kg), Jasmine Lamboria (57 kg), and Priya Ghanghas (60 kg) will represent India in their respective championship bouts.
Congratulating the finalists, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said the state’s athletes have consistently raised India’s profile at major international sporting events. He expressed confidence that the finalists would deliver their best performances in the title clashes and strengthen India’s medal tally.
The Chief Minister also credited Haryana’s sports ecosystem for producing world-class athletes. He said the state’s sports policy, modern infrastructure, and continued support for athletes have helped create an environment where talented sportspersons can excel at both national and international levels.
According to Saini, the consistent success of Haryana’s athletes across multiple disciplines reflects the effectiveness of the state’s investment in sports development. He expressed hope that the boxers would return home with gold medals and bring further glory to both Haryana and the country.
Apart from boxing, the Chief Minister also congratulated Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra for winning the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw. He praised Chopra’s dedication, discipline, and consistent performances, describing him as an inspiration for aspiring athletes across India.
Saini further extended his congratulations to Yashveer Singh, who secured the bronze medal in the men’s javelin event, and Yamini Maurya, who won a silver medal in the judo competition. He wished both athletes continued success in their sporting careers and lauded their contribution to India’s medal campaign.
