Ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, security arrangements for several political leaders have been stepped up, with 52 prominent figures reportedly provided bulletproof jackets costing around ₹10 lakh each. The security measures cover leaders from across the political spectrum, with 11 state ministers also among those who have received the jackets. BJP leader Aparna Yadav is also on the list. The move comes as political parties intensify their preparations for the high-stakes Uttar Pradesh polls.
52 leaders receive bulletproof jackets
According to sources, the bulletproof jackets were distributed in two phases. Eight leaders received them during the first phase, while 44 were provided the protective equipment in the second phase.
Among the state ministers named in the list are Sanjay Nishad, Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ and Om Prakash Rajbhar. Security arrangements have also been strengthened for several other BJP leaders, including Swatantra Dev Singh, Jaiveer Singh and Mahendra Singh.

Security preparations ahead of 2027 polls
The enhanced security measures come at a time when political activity is beginning to gather pace in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. With the state playing a crucial role in national politics, major parties have already started building their organisational and electoral strategies.
The BJP has appointed national general secretary Vinod Tawde as its Uttar Pradesh election in-charge. Jagdish Ishwarbhai Patel has been named co-in-charge, giving the party an experienced organisational team to oversee its preparations in the state.
BJP works on organisational and social equations
As part of its preparations, the BJP is also looking to strengthen its social and caste outreach across Uttar Pradesh. Sources said the party is placing greater emphasis on representation for leaders from Other Backward Classes and minority communities in its organisational structure.
The party has also begun surveys across Assembly constituencies. These exercises are aimed at assessing the strength of the organisation at the local level, identifying potential candidates and understanding issues that could influence voters in individual constituencies.
With the 2027 election still ahead, the increased focus on security, organisational restructuring and constituency-level assessments indicates that preparations for the Uttar Pradesh contest are already moving into a more active phase.
