By Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed confidence that the BJP will return to power with a “grand majority” in the 2027 Assembly elections, banking on the support of beneficiaries of the government’s welfare and development schemes. Speaking in Mathura, he said young people, women, farmers and Dalits who had benefited from government programmes would play an important role in the BJP’s electoral prospects.
Adityanath also highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s growing religious tourism and investment potential, arguing that the state was increasingly turning its cultural and spiritual identity into an economic opportunity. He cited the large number of visitors to Braj and the wider state as evidence of what he described as a new connection between faith, tourism and economic activity.
Yogi confident of BJP’s return in 2027
Speaking at the Aaj Tak Panchayat in Mathura on Thursday, Adityanath said he had made a similar prediction before the 2022 Assembly elections and remained confident about the BJP’s prospects in 2027.
He said beneficiaries of government schemes would support the party in the upcoming election.
“The beneficiaries of our programmes, be it youth, women, farmers or Dalits, will vote for us in next year’s vidhan sabha election,” he said.
The chief minister attributed the expected support to the impact of welfare initiatives and development projects implemented by the BJP-led government.
Braj tourism links faith with economy
Adityanath pointed to the religious importance of the Braj region and its growing tourist footfall while discussing the economic opportunities created by Uttar Pradesh’s cultural heritage.
He said around 11 crore devotees and tourists visited the Braj region last year. Across Uttar Pradesh, he claimed, 156 crore devotees visited religious destinations during 2025.
According to the chief minister, the scale of this footfall demonstrates how religious tourism can contribute to economic activity and employment.
He said the government’s approach was to treat challenges as opportunities and convert those opportunities into practical solutions.
Yogi attacks previous SP government
Adityanath also used the event to target the previous Samajwadi Party government, alleging that it failed to respect the religious sentiments of people in the state.
He claimed that before 2017, celebrations of Krishna Janmashtami were prohibited in police stations and jails. He also alleged that the previous government had stopped the Kanwar Yatra.
The chief minister said his government not only restored the pilgrimage but also allowed devotional practices involving DJs, bells and conch shells.
He claimed that nearly five crore Kanwariyas took part in this year’s Kanwar Yatra without any untoward incident. He added that he had instructed officials to organise Krishna Janmashtami celebrations at police stations, jails and other important public locations.
UP positioned as investment and employment hub
Adityanath said Uttar Pradesh had undergone a major change in its investment environment and was now offering investors facilities linked to investment, skilling and employment.
He said government services and investment-related processes had increasingly moved online, making it easier for investors to access the system.
The chief minister also claimed that his government had provided employment to around 9.5 lakh young people.
Tougher action against paper leaks
Recruitment examinations were another focus of Adityanath’s remarks. Taking aim at the previous government, he alleged that irregularities and paper leaks had previously undermined the recruitment process.
He said stringent laws had helped curb paper leaks in Uttar Pradesh and warned that those found guilty could face severe punishment, including life imprisonment and confiscation of property.
Adityanath alleged that during the Samajwadi Party’s tenure, unfair practices had become common in recruitment examinations, with merit taking a back seat.
‘UP has come out of that phase’
The chief minister also accused the previous government of prioritising political appeasement and alleged that the interests of one family were given greater importance than the state’s broader development and heritage.
He contrasted that period with what he described as the BJP government’s focus on infrastructure, employment, investment and religious tourism.
“Uttar Pradesh has come out of it now,” Adityanath said, presenting the state’s transformation as one of the BJP’s key achievements ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
