By Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has accused political opponents of trying to discredit the transformation taking place in Ayodhya, saying those uncomfortable with the city’s development are attempting to create a negative narrative around it. He said the government is also working to give Mathura-Vrindavan a major religious and cultural makeover, on the lines of the development undertaken in Ayodhya and around the Kashi Vishwanath temple.
Yogi made the remarks during his two-day visit to Mathura-Vrindavan, where he visited Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi the morning after his overnight stay. Reaching the temple complex at around 9:55 am, the chief minister offered prayers at the sanctum sanctorum and visited the Keshav Dev and Yogmaya temples. He later performed gau puja and addressed devotees gathered at the birthplace of Lord Krishna.
Yogi says Mathura-Vrindavan to get a grand religious complex
The chief minister said the development of Mathura-Vrindavan remains an important priority for his government. Referring to the changes in Ayodhya and the redevelopment around Kashi Vishwanath, he said similar efforts were being planned for the Braj region to strengthen its religious and cultural identity while improving facilities for visitors.
His visit to Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi was his 20th visit to the site since becoming chief minister, according to the information shared during the programme.
‘Those who tried to erase Sanatan tradition disappeared’
Speaking from Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi, Yogi invoked the long history of Sanatan tradition and said repeated attempts to undermine it had failed. Referring to historical invaders such as Babur and Aurangzeb, he said they had passed into history, while the country’s religious traditions continued to survive.
The chief minister also appeared to target the Samajwadi Party without naming it directly. He questioned the political approach of those whom he alleged were sympathetic to figures such as Babur and Aurangzeb, and accused them of trying to create social divisions.
Yogi further alleged that attempts to create tension in society could encourage anti-national elements and pose a threat to public security.
CM invokes Lord Krishna while warning opponents
Yogi said the BJP-led “double-engine” government would not allow such efforts to succeed. He urged people to remain focused on the interests of the country and society, saying that the rest should be left to Lord Krishna.
Referring to the teachings associated with Lord Krishna, the chief minister said messages delivered thousands of years ago continue to have relevance today. He said forces working for the welfare of society should be protected, while those working against national and social interests would ultimately face consequences similar to those associated with Kansa.
‘Invaders could break idols, but not our values’
The chief minister also inaugurated a Shri Krishna Janmashtami celebration at the Reserve Police Lines in Lucknow.
Speaking at the event, Yogi said India’s religious faith had endured despite repeated attacks on temples over centuries. He argued that while invaders could damage temples and destroy idols, they could not erase the values and beliefs associated with them.
His remarks in Mathura and Lucknow linked the government’s emphasis on religious-site development with a broader message about preserving cultural traditions, while also drawing a sharp political contrast with opponents he accused of trying to create divisions in society.
