Karaikal is set to witness an unprecedented security operation on February 14 as Union Home Minister Amit Shah prepares to address a public rally in the poll-bound Union Territory of Puducherry. Nearly 500 police personnel will be deployed across the region, reflecting both the political significance of the visit and the scale of the expected turnout.
Senior police officials confirmed that security arrangements are being coordinated under the supervision of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, with forces stationed at key junctions, entry routes, and the rally venue. Crowd management teams, traffic control units and surveillance squads will work in tandem to ensure smooth movement during the high-profile visit.
Shah is scheduled to arrive by helicopter at Thirunallar before heading to the municipal ground in Karaikal, where he will address party workers and supporters. Sources indicate that he may also offer prayers at the historic Thirunallar temple during the visit.
The BJP and its ally, the All India NR Congress, have intensified preparations ahead of the rally. A ceremonial groundwork event was held earlier this week to mark the beginning of stage construction, and organisational committees have been formed to manage logistics, mobilisation and outreach.
With Puducherry Assembly elections expected in April, Shah’s rally is being seen as a strategic push to consolidate support in Karaikal’s five constituencies and energise cadres ahead of the campaign’s peak phase.
