By The BJP’s parliamentary board on Sunday (December 14, 2025) announced the appointment of Bihar Minister and five-time MLA Nitin Nabin as the party’s national working president, ending months of speculation.
Mr. Nabin, 45, is expected to be formally elected BJP national president in January 2026, with the endorsement scheduled at the party’s National Council meeting in April. The incumbent president, Union Minister J.P. Nadda, is currently serving on an extension.
Congratulating Mr. Nabin, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described him as a “hard-working karyakarta” with strong organisational experience and an impressive record as both MLA and minister in Bihar. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah also extended their congratulations.
Associated with the BJP for over two decades, Mr. Nabin began his political journey in the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, serving as Bihar unit president and later as national general secretary. He entered the Bihar Assembly in 2006 from Patna (West) and has remained undefeated from Bankipore since. He currently handles the law and justice, urban development and housing portfolios, and earlier served as road construction minister.
Party sources said his elevation signals a generational shift in leadership. His role as co-in-charge of the BJP’s successful 2023 Chhattisgarh Assembly campaign and his involvement in key organisational exercises strengthened his case.
With the announcement, the BJP is expected to revamp its national team after the formal presidential election. Mr. Nabin said he would work to strengthen the party from the booth to the national level, with upcoming Assembly elections posing an immediate challenge.
