Electric Buses and Sand Art Mark the Opening
The 25 electric buses were introduced under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme, which supports the expansion of electric public transport in cities. Their flag-off formed a key part of the event, while Pattnaik’s sand art installation added an artistic dimension to the opening session.
The conclave is being organised by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), with support from the Odisha government. The Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) and NBCC are supporting the event and serving as its principal sponsors, while the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) is the knowledge partner.
Focus on India’s Urban Development Challenges
The National Urban Conclave serves as a platform for government officials, urban planners, technical specialists and other stakeholders to exchange views on improving how Indian cities are developed and managed.
Discussions are centred on urban challenges and possible solutions, with the second edition covering seven key thematic areas. The aim is to encourage collaboration among government agencies, industry and experts while identifying approaches that can be applied to cities across the country.
Second Edition Builds on 2025 Event
The conclave was established as an annual forum for discussing India’s urban development priorities. Its inaugural edition was held in New Delhi in November 2025, bringing together stakeholders to deliberate on issues affecting cities and urban infrastructure.
The Bhubaneswar edition continues that effort, providing a national platform to discuss urban planning, infrastructure and the future management of Indian cities. The event is scheduled to conclude on October 25.
