Nabin said the Congress could not question the functioning of constitutional institutions while overlooking its own record in government. He alleged that the opposition was trying to create political instability and accused its leaders of using constitutional concerns as a political weapon. The Congress’s allegations surrounding the Bihar voter-list revision formed a key part of his attack.
Nabin Questions Congress’s Record on Constitutional Institutions
Speaking at the meeting, Nabin accused the Congress of failing to respect constitutional principles when it held power, citing the Emergency and the imposition of President’s Rule in several states.
“Today, in the country, there is an attempt to challenge constitutional institutions and democracy. Those who swear by the Constitution have shredded it to pieces,” he said.
He argued that the Congress had governed according to its own political interests rather than consistently following constitutional principles. Nabin also questioned Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of constitutional institutions, saying the party had not raised similar concerns about their functioning when it was in government.
The BJP chief further alleged that forces within India and abroad were supporting attempts to create disorder in the country. He maintained that the Congress’s current political approach contradicted its claims of defending democracy.
Bihar SIR: BJP Chief Challenges Congress’s Allegations
Nabin turned to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, where opposition parties have raised concerns about voter deletions and the revision process.
He claimed that Congress leaders had not filed a single claim or objection in any district during the period provided for submitting them.
“When we examined the period allotted for filing claims and objections, we found that Congress leaders had not filed even a single claim or objection in any of the districts,” Nabin said.
He cited this alleged absence of formal submissions to challenge the Congress’s criticism of the exercise. His remarks placed the focus on the party’s participation in the official claims-and-objections process, rather than solely on its public allegations of irregularities.
Jharkhand BJP Told to Strengthen Grassroots Organisation
Addressing party workers in Jharkhand, Nabin called for a stronger organisational presence and greater engagement with local concerns. His remarks came as the state BJP unit underwent a restructuring involving new office-bearers and organisational in-charges.
He referred to student issues and recent protests, saying the state BJP leadership had been discussing concerns affecting students. Nabin also criticised Congress leaders in Jharkhand, alleging that they had remained silent during the demonstrations despite presenting themselves as representatives of students and young people in Delhi.
He also targeted the Congress over its handling of medical examinations during its tenure, alleging that a “mafia raj” had prevailed in the system. He claimed that the BJP subsequently brought changes to the examination process.
Nabin Praises Modi’s Leadership and BJP’s Electoral Performance
Nabin praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and urged party workers to build public confidence in the government’s welfare schemes. He said the BJP was expanding its presence across the country and called on the Jharkhand unit to work towards strengthening its support base.
He also referred to the BJP’s electoral performance in West Bengal, praising party workers for their efforts despite what he described as unfavourable circumstances.
Expressing confidence in Modi, Nabin said India’s population of 1.4 billion placed its hopes in the Prime Minister and wanted the country to continue progressing under his leadership.
The BJP president also paid tribute to Jharkhand’s historical figures Nilamber and Pitamber. Describing the state as his birthplace, he recalled spending a substantial part of his education there and urged party workers to approach their organisational responsibilities with renewed commitment.
First State Executive Address After BJP Restructuring
The Ranchi meeting marked Nabin’s first address to the Jharkhand BJP State Working Committee since the party’s central leadership restructured the state unit and appointed new office-bearers and organisational in-charges.
Before addressing the gathering, he met district presidents and organisational in-charges as part of his three-day visit to Jharkhand.
His address combined criticism of the Congress over constitutional issues and the Bihar SIR process with a call for stronger grassroots organisation in Jharkhand. The focus on electoral-roll revision also brought the debate over voter-list procedures into the centre of the BJP’s political messaging.
