PM Modi Marks One Year of Operation Sindoor, Calls It India’s Firm Message Against Terrorism

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tribute to the Indian armed forces on the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, describing the mission as a defining moment in India’s fight against terrorism and a symbol of the country’s uncompromising approach to national security.

Remembering the large-scale military operation carried out in May 2025, the Prime Minister said the armed forces demonstrated exceptional courage, precision and coordination while targeting terrorist infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. In a message shared on social media, Modi said the country would always remain proud of the bravery shown by soldiers during one of India’s most significant counter-terror operations in recent years.

Operation Sindoor was launched in the late hours of May 6, 2025, following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 people, most of them tourists, lost their lives. The attack had triggered nationwide outrage and renewed calls for strong action against terror networks operating across the border.

Within days, India responded with a coordinated military strike involving the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy. Precision attacks were carried out on multiple terror camps and strategic military locations believed to be linked to terror activities. Defence experts at the time had described the operation as one of the most advanced and carefully coordinated missions since the Balakot airstrikes of 2019.

In his remarks, Modi said Operation Sindoor showcased not only the bravery of Indian forces but also the growing strength of indigenous defence capabilities under the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. He noted that the mission reflected the professionalism, preparedness and seamless coordination among the three armed services.

“The operation sent a clear message that India will respond firmly to terrorism and will not compromise when it comes to the safety and security of its citizens,” the Prime Minister said.

The military action had also led to heightened tensions along the Line of Control, with Pakistan reportedly attempting retaliatory drone and missile strikes on Indian military facilities. However, Indian defence systems successfully handled the threats, further strengthening public confidence in the country’s military preparedness.

To mark the anniversary, Modi changed his social media display picture in honour of the armed forces and appealed to citizens to do the same as a gesture of respect for the soldiers who participated in the mission. Several senior Union ministers, including Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and S. Jaishankar, also joined the tribute.

Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force released a special video showcasing key moments from the operation, including visuals of precision strikes and coordinated military action. The footage quickly drew attention online, with many praising the armed forces for their discipline and execution.

One year later, Operation Sindoor continues to be seen as a major moment in India’s security doctrine — a mission that reinforced the government’s message of zero tolerance towards terrorism.
