Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has assigned the investigation to ADGP Law and Order Sanjay Kumar, following demands for an independent and impartial examination of the police action.
The decision comes days after a delegation met the Chief Minister and sought a probe into the circumstances surrounding the encounter. Probe follows questions over Karnal police action
The encounter took place after the killing of Veeru Valmiki in Karnal. During the subsequent police operation, Harsh and another person were killed in the encounter.

Delegation met CM Saini on August 13

The delegation sought an independent investigation into the entire sequence of events and raised concerns over the police encounter. Saini had assured the representatives that appropriate action would be taken soon after August 15.
The government has now moved forward with the inquiry, fulfilling the assurance given to the delegation.
ADGP Sanjay Kumar to lead investigation
Under the order issued by the police department, ADGP Law and Order Sanjay Kumar will head the probe.
